Position Overview The South Dakota Water Resources Institute (SD WRI) is seeking a highly motivated and creative
Communications and Marketing Coordinator
to support outreach, engagement, and visibility efforts. This part-time position averages
15 hours per week
and offers a flexible schedule. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, experience in digital marketing, and a passion for promoting water resources research and education.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Management
Develop and manage engaging content for SD WRI’s website, social media platforms, and newsletters.
Write, edit, and proofread articles, press releases, and promotional materials.
Work with scientists and engineers to collect and synthesize research and project results into high-impact outreach materials.
Social Media & Digital Marketing
Plan and execute social media campaigns to increase awareness and engagement.
Monitor analytics and optimize strategies for reach and impact.
Ensure consistent branding across all communication channels.
Assist in creating marketing materials for events, workshops, and programs.
Assist in recruiting funding and sponsorship partners
Assist in recruiting and managing a network of scientists and engineers to be part of the SD WRI Watershed Network
Event Support
Promote SD WRI events through digital channels and assist with virtual event coordination. Attend and support with in-person organization of 2-3 annual events.
Work closely with SD WRI leadership and partners to align messaging with organizational goals.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field with relevance to water or communications (or equivalent experience).
2+ years of related professional experience.
Demonstrated strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Experience with social media management and digital marketing tools.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks remotely.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in a field related to water science or communications.
5+ years of related professional experience.
Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) is a plus.
Compensation & Schedule
Hourly Rate:
$25/hour
Hours:
Approximately 15 hours per week
Schedule:
Flexible
Term:
6 months. The term is extendable pending performance and availability of funding.
