General Purpose This position provides a visible presence at the store entrances and exits, mitigating theft and fraud and maintaining a safe and secure environment for associates and customers. The specialist greets customers with eye contact, smiles, and friendly “command” presence in a company‑issued vest, while monitoring the Code 50 package inspection policy. Walking the sales floor, the specialist identifies and addresses potential theft indicators and works with store leadership to ensure compliance with loss‑prevention directives and minimize operational shortage. The role embraces Ross’s values and protects the “treasure” of our stores.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environment
Practice safe behaviors and assist store leadership in maintaining a safe environment for associates and customers.
Provide visible “command” presence, greeting customers at entrances and on the sales floor in a company‑issued vest.
Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
Developing Great Teams & Partnerships
Deliver great customer service by greeting customers, making eye contact, smiling, and answering questions courteously.
Treat all customers and associates with respect.
Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times and recognize associates using company programs.
Participate in internal and external partner activities such as conference calls, district meetings, and associate education.
Perform other duties as assigned to support loss‑prevention initiatives.
Personal and Store Brand
Represent and support the company brand at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code.
Mitigating Theft & Fraud
Monitor entrances/exits and the sales floor for suspicious behavior.
Gather theft indicators and use internal or external intelligence to impact shortage trends, communicating findings to store and loss‑prevention leadership.
Adhere to company policy for external theft response.
Execute best practices, maximize productivity, and minimize steps and touches while working.
Minimizing Operational Shortage
Increase store awareness of effective processes to minimize shortage.
Train and educate associates on shortage‑reduction initiatives.
Observe and validate proper checkout procedures for customers and associates.

Qualifications & Special Skills Required
High school education or equivalent required; AA degree preferred.
One year retail supervisor experience or similar training preferred.One year loss‑prevention/security training preferred.
Active security guard license preferred.
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with the store team.
Excellent customer service skills.
Proven ability to resolve conflict.
Ability to comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations for security positions, including background screening, physical examination, fingerprinting and/or drug and alcohol testing.
Physical Requirements / ADA
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Ability to spend up to 100 % of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
Ability to lift or lower objects more than 25 lbs. from one level to another.
Ability to regularly bend, stoop, or crouch (frequency and duration vary).
Certain assignments may require other qualifications and skills.

Base Pay Range The base pay range for this role is $15.50 – $16.00 per hour.
