Position Purpose The Service & Parts Specialist is a dual‑role position designed to support daily Service Department operations while driving growth within the Parts Department, Pro Shop, and retail accessory sales.
This role functions primarily as a Service Writer, while also serving as the dealership’s frontline specialist for parts, marine accessories, and retail sales. The position plays a critical role in increasing parts revenue, improving service workflow efficiency, and enhancing the overall customer experience.
This is not a management position and operates under the direction of the Service Manager.
Core Responsibilities Service Writer Responsibilities (Primary)
Write and manage service repair orders
Schedule service work and coordinate technician workflow
Communicate with customers regarding estimates, approvals, status updates, and completion timelines
Coordinate parts availability with service jobs
Assist with warranty documentation and processing
Maintain accurate records within the DMS
Support service department efficiency and customer satisfaction
Parts Department Responsibilities (Secondary but Revenue‑Focused)
Manage over‑the‑counter parts sales
Assist customers with parts lookup and ordering
Recommend replacement and upgrade components
Maintain organized parts inventory and stocking levels
Coordinate special orders and customer notifications
Support technicians with internal parts requests
Pro Shop & Accessory Sales
Sell marine accessories and retail merchandise
Maintain Pro Shop displays and merchandising
Recommend accessory add‑ons tied to service work and boat ownership
Drive attachment sales opportunities
All Pro Shop and over‑the‑counter accessory sales are credited to this position for commission eligibility.
Retail & Online Parts Growth (Developmental Responsibility)
Assist in building and managing in‑store retail parts sales, online store, eBay store, Amazon store (if implemented)
Create listings, pricing, and descriptions
Fulfill and ship orders
Handle customer inquiries related to retail parts sales
Compensation Structure Base Pay
$35,000 - $41,000 Base Salary
Salary structure tied to Service Writer responsibilities
Provides stable income based on administrative and customer service workload
Commission Program
Eligible for commission on over‑the‑counter parts sales, Pro Shop & marine accessory sales, special order parts, online store sales, eBay / Amazon sales (if applicable)
Expected commissions based on previous year between $7,000 and $20,000
Commissions are above and beyond base salary
Commission is based on gross profit, encouraging healthy margins and sustainable growth.
