
POSITION SUMMARY
A purchasing agent is responsible for forecasting, order planning, purchasing, record‑keeping and item maintenance for the brands and items of all assigned vendors.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESULTS
Forecast sales using data and information from sales, Business Management, suppliers, and sales history.
Plan orders by utilizing the forecasting system, maintaining custom forecasts, and providing replenishment information.
Review order requests from sales, Business Management, and suppliers, performing analysis related to inventory needs, over‑stock, financial, and storage considerations.
Purchase products by applying critical thinking to analyze vast amounts of data, preparing and submitting purchase orders that meet company objectives and supplier requirements.
Maintain proper inventory levels through consistent review of inventory reports and forecasts, close attention to supplier order confirmations, and regular meetings with sales, Business Management, and suppliers.
Maintain excellent records of order preparation, confirmations, and receipt information.
Perform item maintenance by updating forecasts, reviewing receipts to verify vintages, and changing item specifications or characteristics such as size, pack, weight, vintage, use‑up, and obsolescence.
Develop strong working relationships with sales, Business Management, and suppliers through regular and continual communication via email, phone, and personal meetings.
Manage exceptions by communicating with sales, Business Management, suppliers, and any necessary Empire Merchants associates.
Achieve work objectives by gathering pertinent data, identifying and evaluating options, and choosing a course of action.
Maintain organization’s stability and reputation by keeping information confidential.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Salary range: $65,000 – $70,000.
Three or more years of Wine and Spirits industry experience preferred, or three or more years of Logistics/Supply Chain industry experience.
