We are excited to announce an opening for a Senior Writer for Executive Communications in our Executive Office, located in Washington, D.C. or New York City. POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Writer for Executive Communications is essential in crafting and delivering messages in the voice of NRDC's President & CEO. This role requires the transformation of complex policy and organizational information into engaging and strategically aligned content tailored for various audiences, including staff, Trustees, donors, policymakers, and the public. Responsibilities Writing & Content Development

Draft and edit communications across platforms, ensuring clarity and alignment with the President's voice. Create talking points, scripts, remarks, op-eds, blogs, social media content, briefing materials, and correspondence. Conduct research and fact-checking to enhance content accuracy and depth. Oversee version control and coordinate with internal stakeholders for reviews.

External Presence & Audiences

Speaking Events

Prepare speeches and talking points for confirmed engagements, integrating research and strategic guidance. Compile briefing books and conduct scenario planning for events. Assist in drafting pitch language for events and researching hosts and agendas. Provide on-site support during major events.

Social Media

Create social media posts, including rapid-response content. Identify opportunities to highlight key themes from the President's engagements and news coverage. Analyze audience engagement metrics to inform future social media strategies.

Internal & Board Communications

Internal Communications

Draft communications for all-staff updates and small-group meetings. Translate leadership vision into clear, accessible messages for staff. Support internal messaging production and distribution processes.

Board Engagement

Draft materials for Board Books and presentations, along with follow-up communications. Assist with last-minute edits and materials for on-site board engagement.

Advance & Travel Support

Manage advance planning for external engagements, including liaising with hosts and coordinating logistics. Prepare comprehensive briefing books and contingency plans for travel. Oversee all travel logistics in collaboration with the Executive Office. Provide real-time support during events.

Collaboration & Special Projects

Collaborate with various teams within the Executive Office, Communications, Development, and Program sectors. Assist in special projects related to executive communications initiatives. Support the Senior Manager in the CEO Voice Working Group.

Please note that this list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may evolve. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Qualifications Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in journalism, writing, English, public affairs, or a related field. 4+ years of experience writing for senior leaders or public figures, preferably in the nonprofit, government, or academic sectors.

Skills & Competencies:

Exceptional writing, storytelling, and voice adaptation skills. Strong research and content development capabilities. Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Familiarity with climate change and environmental policy is a plus. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Meticulous proofreading and attention to detail. Capacity to work independently and incorporate feedback effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. A collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Willingness to travel to NRDC's U.S.-based offices and events (10-15% yearly). PHYSICAL DEMANDS The demands of this role involve, but are not limited to, the following: Frequent desk-based computer tasks. Regular interaction and communication with colleagues. Attendance at meetings and collaboration with team members. Occasional presence at events or activities, both in-office and off-site. Work setting can vary between quiet office environments and moderate activity during events. Flexibility in hours may be required during peak project times, including evenings or weekends.
