Overview The Director of Accounting & Financial Reporting is a senior‑level finance leader responsible for managing all accounting and financial reporting functions across multiple business units (healthcare, hospitality, real estate, etc.) within a diverse organization. This position ensures the accurate financial statements, maintains internal controls, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The Director plays a key role in driving consistency, efficiency, and transparency across all entities and serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting
Lead the preparation of consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the organization and its business units.
Manage the preparation of internal management reports, including variance analysis and other key performance indicators.
Ensure that all financial reporting is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
Ensure all reporting complies with U.S. GAAP, FASB and organizational policies.
Review and analyze financial results across all subsidiaries to identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
Prepare and present reporting packages to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
Multi‑Entity Accounting Oversight
Oversee the accounting operations of multiple business units, ensuring standardization and accuracy across entities.
Lead the general ledger, fixed assets, revenue recognition, and account reconciliation processes.
Ensure efficient intercompany eliminations, allocations, and consolidations for multi‑entity operations.
Coordinate the chart of accounts and maintain alignment with operational and financial reporting needs across the enterprise.
Month‑End and Year‑End Close
Direct and manage the month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes to ensure timely and accurate results.
Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial schedules across business units.
Establish and maintain a close calendar and deliverables timeline.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Ensure compliance with accounting regulations, tax laws, and financial reporting requirements.
Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls over financial reporting for all entities.
Coordinate and manage external audits, including preparing supporting documentation and addressing auditor inquiries.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and develop a team of accounting and financial reporting professionals.
Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure high‑quality work and continuous growth.
Establish metrics, goals and benchmarks for the accounting department to enable the staff to successfully reach and sustain desired results.
Promote a collaborative and accountable team culture.
Policy & Procedure Management
Create and maintain enterprise‑wide accounting policies and procedures.
Drive consistency in accounting practices across all business units.
Serve as a technical accounting resource and guide the organization through complex accounting issues.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
Oversee and support financial system implementations, integrations, and upgrades across business units.
Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in reporting and accounting operations.
Ensure systems are scalable and aligned with future business growth.
Business Partnering & Strategic Support
Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and executive team, providing financial analysis and insight to support strategic initiatives, service line expansions, and capital planning.
Provide financial insights to support operational decisions and recommendations to drive business strategy and decision‑making.
Communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to both financial and non‑financial stakeholders.
Provide guidance on budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to support company goals.
Collaborate with Operations, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and Legal departments to ensure alignment and accurate reporting.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA or CMA certification preferred.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
At least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing accounting in a multi‑entity or multi‑business environment.
Experience with complex consolidations, intercompany accounting, and reporting across different industries or sectors.
Prior experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
Skills & Competencies
Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to manage complexity and prioritize in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Experience leading system implementations or process automation projects is a plus.
