
Responsible for underwriting Direct and Indirect consumer loans from multiple origination channels. Utilizes Credit Union policies and consumer lending guidelines for the extension of credit. Meets underwriting and other job expectations as determined by the Director of Consumer Lending. Serves members, prospective members and dealers promptly and professionally. Provides guidance to Credit Union lending staff as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Monitors the consumer lending underwriting queue and evaluates loan applications from branch, Contact Center, and indirect dealer channels, rendering credit decisions within established lending authority. Escalates applications exceeding authority to the Director of Consumer Lending as appropriate. Maintains a thorough understanding of Credit Union lending policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Provides high-quality underwriting support to consumer lending personnel in accordance with the Credit Union’s established practices, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Ensures approved loans are appropriately structured with suitable terms and conditions to mitigate risk and maintain portfolio quality. Identifies and discusses counter-offer opportunities with lenders when applicable.
Uncovers and recommends new opportunities to consumer lending personnel to effectively meet members’ needs while supporting the organization’s strategic objectives.
Maintains strong working relationships with lenders, branches, and dealers while executing responsibilities efficiently and accurately in accordance with service and quality standards. Communicates loan decisions and recommendations clearly to ensure shared understanding.
Continually cross-trains on additional roles within the Centralized/Indirect Lending Department to support operational flexibility, while assisting the Indirect Loan Processor with various stages of the loan process as needed.
Maintains an organized and professional individual and departmental work environment.
Facilitates ongoing communication with branch lenders regarding underwriting updates, while addressing lending-related questions and providing education on process enhancements.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Consumer Lending.
Skills & Qualifications Education/Certification & Experience:
High School Diploma required.
At least 2 years of financial institution experience required.
Basic consumer lending knowledge.
Skills/Abilities:
Proven ability to create, comprehend, analyze, and interpret data.
Proven analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial analyses.
Proven ability to solve advanced problems and effectively navigate through complex situations.
Proven understanding of lending products, policies, procedures, standards, government regulations and legal requirements.
