Astrazeneca, Waltham, Massachusetts, United States, 02254
Job Title: Director, Translational Science, Oncology
Location: Waltham, MA
Introduction to the role:
At AstraZeneca, we work together across global boundaries to make an impact and find answers to challenges. We do this with the utmost integrity even in the most difficult situations because we are committed to doing the right thing. We continuously forge partnerships that help pursue world‑class medicines in new ways, combining our people’s exceptional skills with those of people from all over the globe.
We are seeking a Director in Oncology Translational Medicine to join a world‑class centre for discovery and development of innovative cancer medicines. In this role, you are responsible for delivering robust, evidence‑based biomarkers in drug discovery and development programs for tumor‑targeted agents. This also includes radioconjugates across cancer types. You will have the opportunity to impact an industry‑leading portfolio of targeted therapy programs from inception through to life cycle management for marketed drugs.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Demonstrate experience in translational medicine for radiotracers and radioconjugates, including biomarker strategy to support first‑in‑human and early‑phase clinical development, imaging endpoints, and clinical implementation.
Deliver biomarkers for clinical studies based on the best available science and technologies.
You’ll generate disease linkage data to guide indication selection and targeted patient populations.
Measuring target engagement reliably and quantifiably to inform clinical decisions for selecting therapeutically relevant doses and schedules.
You will have an understanding of key cancer pathway interactions and feedback mechanisms in clinical samples to guide rational drug combinations.
You’ll define novel mechanisms of resistance targeted therapies by studying tumors and other clinical samples at relapse.
Essential Requirements and Qualifications
PhD and/or MD with 7+ yrs experience in drug development and translational science.
In‑depth knowledge of oncology disease area biology and translational science, ideally with expertise in radioconjugates and prior translational medicine experience.
Proven communication and influencing skills.
Highly developed problem solving and risk management skills.
Highly developed collaborative working skills.
Ability to act as an external ambassador and to influence external organisations to enhance the image and reputation of AstraZeneca.
Proven ability to motivate and develop others.
When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life‑changing medicines. In‑person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That's why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we're not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.
AstraZeneca is where innovation meets collaboration. We harness diverse knowledge to move with agility, working seamlessly across functions globally. Our team is empowered to make quick decisions, influencing drug development strategy at all levels. With a science‑driven approach, we bring life‑changing medicines to patients, constantly asking questions and trying new things. Your professional growth is passionately supported here, with opportunities to work on projects at all stages of development.
