Job Summary Seeking a compassionate and motivated
Peer Recovery Specialist
to support individuals with substance use and/or mental health challenges. The Peer Recovery Specialist uses lived experience in recovery to provide mentorship, advocacy, and recovery-oriented support services that promote wellness, self-sufficiency, and community integration.
Key Responsibilities
Provide peer-to-peer recovery support services to individuals receiving behavioral health services
Share lived recovery experience to inspire hope and promote engagement in services
Assist individuals in developing recovery goals, wellness plans, and coping strategies
Support individuals with navigating community resources, social services, and treatment options
Facilitate or co-facilitate recovery-focused groups and activities
Encourage self-advocacy, personal responsibility, and skill-building
Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory standards
Collaborate with clinicians, case managers, and multidisciplinary teams
Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
Qualifications Required:
Lived experience with recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges
Minimum of 1 year in sustained recovery (or as defined by state guidelines)
Peer Recovery Specialist Certification (VA) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
High school diploma or GED
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
Experience working in behavioral health, social services, or community-based programs
Knowledge of local community resources in Virginia Beach
Bilingual skills a plus
