
Job Description
Position Summary: The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies that support the organization’s mission and programs. This role plays a critical part in generating funding to support ongoing operations, new initiatives, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Research & Strategy
Identify potential grant opportunities through research of funding databases and sources.
Maintain a grant calendar and ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.
Proposal Development
Write compelling and tailored grant proposals, LOIs, and supporting documents.
Collaborate with program staff to gather accurate and relevant content.
Develop budgets and project timelines in collaboration with finance and program teams.
Reporting & Stewardship
Track progress of submitted grants and respond to follow-up questions.
Prepare and submit timely grant reports to funders.
Maintain relationships with foundation officers and other funding contacts.
Data Management
Maintain detailed records of grant applications, outcomes, and funder communications.
Update donor management systems as needed.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with development, finance, and program teams to ensure alignment across proposals.
Participate in strategic planning around funding goals and organizational needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s a plus).
Minimum [2–5] years of experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising.
Proven track record of securing grants from private and public funding sources.
Excellent written communication, editing, and research skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
Familiarity with grant databases (e.g., Foundation Directory Online) and donor CRMs.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Understanding of nonprofit financials and budgeting processes preferred.
