Ensure, through the recruitment, training and supervision of staff development and maintenance of physical facilities and equipment, implementation of operational procedures, the health, welfare and safety of everyone at Camp Colonie

Develop, implement and evaluate recreational programs to maintain or improve the abilities of persons with disabilities.

Engage in education and information activities leading toward and aimed at fostering public awareness of, and positive response to the camping program.

Provide the Executive Director and other administrative staff with information and recommendations concerning camp in order to facilitate effective operations.

Adhere to a Safety/Risk Management Program that includes assessment, evaluation, and establishment of procedures, incident review, workplace engineering, training and such other measures that ensure a safe and healthy workplace environment.

Adhere to regulations set forth by NYS Department of Health and OPWDD pertaining to camp operations.

Ensure student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) are monitored by instructional staff.

Maintain positive relationships with local school districts, parents, students and other partnerships that support camp operations.

Collect and review progress reports from instructional staff, distribute to families and school districts at the end of the camp season.

Ensure all necessary student paperwork is collected and maintained on file.

BS degree in a field related to camping, rehabilitation or education

NYS Students with Disabilities (SWD) Teacher Certification is beneficial but not required

Minimum of five years of administrative or supervisory experience

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Youth Development, the Day Camp Director is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in both small and large group settings. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group. The incumbent will provide high quality educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.\nEssential Functions:\nWork with camp administration, other counselors, parents and campers to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all campers in accordance with the YMCA core values; Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.\nProvide supervision to camp program staff including planning, assigning and directing work.\nEnsuring youth gain opportunities to be physically active for 60 minutes during a full-day program, or 30 minutes during a half-day program, and that standards for healthy eating are met during camp.\nProvide guidance to day camp counselors and communicate recommendations and concerns to Camp Leadership regarding day camp counselors' performances.\nBe able to work in groups, and independently to plan, prepare, and organize engaging and age-appropriate activities for campers.\nDevelop and implement a weekly schedule, coordinate field trips and collect any required participant waivers/materials.\nOrganize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, sports, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, Family Night, field trips, etc.\nManage camp budget and order necessary supplies and materials for camp\nIdentify and respond to camper behavior issues.\nEnsure that the camp facilities are kept clean, organized, and free of litter.\nEffectively communicate with parents about participants' experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership.\nMaintain accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.\nKnow and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.\nKnow, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas.
