The Democratic Association of Secretaries of State

(DASS)

is the only DNC-affiliated organization dedicated to electing and protecting Democratic Secretaries of State. DASS is on the front line to protect incumbent Secretaries while identifying opportunities to pick up additional seats in the fight for democracy. Candidate Services Director As a Candidate Services Director, you will be a key part of the DASS team, working collaboratively with the Executive Director, Secretaries of State, and candidates for Secretary of State in the 2026 cycle. This position will be DASS’s point person in multiple states, coordinating DASS involvement, bringing insight, guidance and resources to campaigns.

The Candidate Services Director should be a seasoned campaigner who can balance multiple priorities from concept to completion while working independently as part of a remote team.

This position reports to the Executive Director and is based in Washington, DC through the 2026 cycle. This role is expected to travel for meetings and DASS events as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as point of contact with Secretaries running for re-election, their campaign and consulting teams, and relevant in-state stakeholders.

Serve as the primary point of contact with candidates for Secretary of State in challenger and open seat opportunities, their campaign staff and consulting teams, and relevant in-state stakeholders.

Work with senior staff and leadership on making political spending decisions; maximizing where our money can most strategically help win races.

Consult with candidates on how to set up campaigns, including providing guidance and resources with operations, staffing, campaign launches, and events;

Work hand-in-hand with campaign managers to ensure Democratic campaigns are operating at the highest level, including recruitment, training, and managing effective campaign teams;

Collaborate across the Democratic ecosystem, including national and state parties, partners, and campaigns to ensure coordinated efforts in electing Secretaries of State.

Provide guidance on fundraising, organizing, polling, media, planning and budgeting to campaigns.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

At least 2+ cycles of statewide campaign leadership experience or equivalent experience on national campaigns;

Principal management experience with multiple elected officials;

Experience developing strategy, messaging, and working with consulting teams to execute the message through paid communication;

Knowledge of campaign budgeting, cashflow, and fundraising projections;

Experience working with and developing television, digital, and mail programs;

Ability to provide meaningful input on polling and other public opinion research items to drive strategic decision making;

Confidence to think creatively about complex campaign problems and be willing to find unique solutions that fit each campaign’s specific needs;

Willingness to travel to fulfill primary responsibilities;

Must be comfortable with long, irregular hours during peak seasons.

How to Apply Salary for the position is $100,000 - $115,000 on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. DASS offers a generous benefit package, including:
