Outside Specification Sales Representative – Lighting & Controls
We are seeking a motivated, results-driven, and technically minded Outside Specification Sales Representative to support lighting and controls manufacturers within the architectural and design community. This role serves as the primary liaison between manufacturers and architects, lighting designers, landscape architects, and electrical engineers, with the goal of securing

specifications. The position combines relationship building,
technical expertise , and
aesthetic sensibility
in a highly visible, consultative sales role.
Core Responsibilities
Proactively engage with architects and designers to influence project specifications and secure preferred product positioning
Provide technical consultation including product selection, layout guidance, and energy code compliance support (e.g., Title 24, IECC)
Conduct educational presentations, including Lunch & Learns and CEU-accredited sessions, on products, technologies, and industry trends
Track projects from early design stages through bidding and award, collaborating closely with internal sales, quoting, and project teams
Represent the organization at industry events and professional associations to build and maintain strong relationships
Qualifications & Skills
3-5+ years of experience in architectural lighting, specification sales, or a related role within the built environment
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred
Strong understanding of lighting systems, controls, and design principles; lighting design background is a plus
Ability to read and interpret construction documents, fixture schedules, and electrical drawings
Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and presentation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with lighting design or modeling software (AGi32, Visual, Revit) is a plus
Lighting Certified (LC) and/or LEED or WELL accreditation preferred
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within assigned territory (60%-80%) and periodically for trainings, tradeshows, and manufacturer visits
