Role Description
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Day Camp , and in the accordance with the association policies, the Day Camp Director will be responsible for the daily administration of Summer Day Camp and School’s Out Day programs and their activities at their respective camp and branch.The Day Camp Director supervises and guides the Day Camp and School’s Out Day staff to ensure that children’s development occurs in a safe and healthy environment.
This position will be running the day-to-day operations of our Lincoln Park site located at 1301 W Hampton Ave in Milwaukee, WI.
Lead, hire, onboard, train, and develop high-performing Day Camp & School’s Out Day teams while fostering leadership growth and career pathways.
Oversee program operations, budgeting, and fiscal stewardship to ensure high-quality experiences while staying within approved financial plans.
Ensure full compliance with state childcare regulations while delivering safe, inclusive, age-appropriate programming that supports children’s emotional, physical, intellectual, and social development.
Drive program quality and growth through strategic planning, STEAM curriculum support, staff training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Build strong partnerships with schools, families, and community organizations to expand participation and visibility of youth programs.
Serve as a community-facing leader—collaborating with Marketing, attending events, advocating for youth needs, and promoting engaging enrichment opportunities for children and teens.
Model the Y’s core values (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility), champion diversity and inclusion, support food and wellness programs, and uphold child safety as a mandatory reporter.
Qualifications
Preferred candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, Sports and Recreation or related field from an accredited college/university, course work includes six credits in early childhood education (Registry level 12 or higher)
Must be at least 21 years of age
3+ years working in an organized children’s program
3+ years supervisory experience
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good oral, auditory and written communication skills are required
Proven ability to have initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently
Strong public relations skills with excellent written and oral presentation skills
Competent computer skills necessary to effectively perform job
Demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others
Ability to manage multiple priorities with a high volume of work
