Summary The Senior Superintendent is a critical leadership role responsible for managing all aspects of on‑site construction operations for large and complex projects within our general contracting portfolio. The Superintendent has deep expertise in field execution, coordination of multiple trades, site logistics planning, and risk mitigation. The Senior Superintendent ensures the project is built safely, is on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role acts as the primary point of contact for field operations, mentoring site staff while interfacing directly with clients, consultants, city inspectors, and senior leadership.
Initial project location is Buffalo, NY, followed by other projects across the US. This position requires extensive travel (90‑100%) to job sites across the US on a continual basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Construction Execution & Site Management
Provide full‑time onsite leadership and direction for all phases of construction from mobilization through punch list and closeout.
Oversee and coordinate all field activities, including self‑perform crews, subcontractors, equipment, and material deliveries.
Enforce adherence to the construction documents, scope of work, and project specifications.
Proactively monitor and drive the critical path to maintain schedule compliance and mitigate delays.
Scheduling & Logistics
Develop and maintain the master construction schedule using tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, including sequencing of trades and just‑in‑time deliveries.
Lead weekly look‑ahead schedule meetings with field staff and subcontractors.
Anticipate and resolve logistics challenges, including crane operations, hoisting plans, laydown areas, and access routes.
Coordinate shutdowns, utility tie‑ins, inspections, and site turnover milestones.
Safety Leadership
Champion a zero‑incident safety culture across the jobsite; model and enforce best practices.
Ensure strict compliance with OSHA regulations and company‑specific safety programs.
Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
Perform regular site safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
Monitor safety documentation from all subcontractors and ensure up‑to‑date certifications.
Quality Control & Assurance
Implement project‑specific quality control programs in coordination with the QA/QC Manager.
Conduct mock‑ups, first‑install inspections, and pre‑installation meetings for major scopes.
Review shop drawings and submittals to ensure correct field execution.
Identify and correct workmanship issues before they become punch list items.
Subcontractor Management
Conduct pre‑construction meetings with each subcontractor to review scope, schedule, and safety requirements.
Manage subcontractor manpower forecasting and performance tracking.
Enforce contract compliance including scope alignment, change directives, and quality standards.
Mediate conflicts between trades and ensure smooth trade‑to‑trade handoffs.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the company’s on‑site representative for all client‑facing activities.
Host and lead Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) meetings, job walks, and milestone inspections.
Communicate schedule updates, logistics plans, and field challenges to the client transparently and professionally.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain complete and accurate daily reports including weather conditions, labor counts, subcontractor activity, deliveries, safety notes, and incidents.
Track all field directives, RFIs, and changes affecting the work.
Support the Project Manager with monthly reporting, schedule updates, and invoice validations.
Ensure As‑Built drawings are kept current by field staff and subcontractors.
Closeout & Turnover
Lead the punch list process with the architect and ownership team.
Coordinate completion of all outstanding work, testing, commissioning, and final inspections.
Ensure O&M manuals, warranties, and closeout documentation are delivered in a timely manner.
Oversee site demobilization, final cleaning, and project turnover.
Supervise and mentor Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and field engineers.
Provide performance feedback and guidance to build the next generation of field leadership.
Foster a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field strongly preferred.
10‑20+ years of field construction experience, with at least 5 years as lead Superintendent on large‑scale or Multi‑Site projects.
Hands‑on experience supervising concrete construction activities, including sitework, foundations, slab‑on‑grade, elevated slabs, formwork systems, rebar placement, embeds, and concrete pours. Must have direct field oversight experience managing concrete crews, sequencing pours, coordinating inspections, and ensuring quality and safety during placement and finishing.
Demonstrated success overseeing ground‑up, multi‑story, complex commercial or institutional construction.
Deep knowledge of construction methods, building systems, trades, materials, and local building codes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, submittals, and specifications with high accuracy.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Procore® project management software and MS Project or Primavera P6 scheduling software.
OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR, or ability to acquire, is required.
State/local General Contractors license, and LEED accreditation is preferred.

The anticipated compensation range for the position is $120,000 to $150,000, is based on a full‑time schedule, market and business conditions, and is commensurate on individual education, qualifications, and experience. Work Conditions & Travel This is an on‑site role at the location of the project(s) and requires travel for extended periods in various geographic areas and demographic areas. Multi‑shift work may be required to accomplish work in active retail locations to meet aggressive schedules.
