About the Role
We're looking for a
Director of Product Design
to lead and elevate design for Ethos's emerging product lines. Ethos is constantly innovating and with this role you will own the design practice that envisions new products and establishes them as new business lines for Ethos. You will own, alongside your team and Product and Engineering counterparts, the end-to-end journeys that introduce prospective customers to these products and lead them through a learning and discovery experience to conversion and activation. You will iterate and experiment continuously to establish your product lines. Our products are heavily narrative, story-telling, and craft driven. As such you will have a key role in shaping how Ethos grows and how Ethos helps people navigate complex decisions with confidence, clarity, and care.
This role combines strategic vision, team management, with hands-on design and product building excellence. You'll champion intentional, intuitive, and engaging design, compelling storytelling, strategic experimentation, and measurable business impact - and will help make Ethos the most trusted and user-friendly life insurance experience in the world.
Duties & Responsibilities: Lead design emerging business lines
- covering landing experiences, application flows, underwriting, checkout, onboarding, and policy management. Lead, mentor, and grow a small but mighty team of product designers.
Bring in design specialists to support the vision as needed. Collaborate cross-functionally
with Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and Brand to deliver cohesive experiences that delight users and align with key business outcomes such as conversion and retention. Raise the bar for the design practice across:
design systems and craft, accessibility, decision-making discipline, experimentation, storytelling, leverage of research and data. Partner with adjacent design functions , such as Performance Creative and Brand, to create a consistent, connected user journey across growth and product surfaces. Contribute to create an environment of excellence and growth
where team members can do their best work and grow professionally and personally. Qualifications & Skills:
10+ years of product design (UX) experience, including several years leading multi-person design teams. Proven ability to design for
complex, decision-heavy user journeys
in b2c journeys. industries like fintech, healthtech, or insurtech. Strong understanding of
conversion optimization , user motivation, and behavior design principles. Demonstrated experience turning ambiguity into clarity - structuring complex information and simplifying it into elegant, actionable flows. Skilled at
team and stakeholder communication
- you make design rationale clear, measurable, and compelling. A track record of positive impact to product quality and design culture. A portfolio showcasing strong visual, interaction design, and storytelling craft alongside compelling impact delivered for past businesses and their customers.

The US national base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000 - $261,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
