Government Impact Reporter Our Government Impact Reporter is dedicated to reporting on the immediate and long-term impacts of state and national policy intentions and decisions, particularly those of political leaders such as Governor Ron DeSantis and President Donald Trump that shape the lives of Floridians. The Government Impact Reporter makes national and state news “local” and will provide nuanced, balanced coverage that explores how evolving policies affect people across the political spectrum. This reporter will produce a mix of daily, enterprise, To The Point and video stories that assess the immediate effects of government decisions on Floridians, highlighting both potential positive and negative outcomes. Stories will include diverse geographical voices to make stories meaningful to the four corners of the state, from the Panhandle to Central Florida, South Florida and the Coast.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor, research and report on rapid-fire policy changes and proposals from Governor Ron DeSantis, President Donald Trump and other key political figures affecting Florida.

Develop enterprise reporting projects that examine the broader, long-term implications of major policy issues facing the state.

Analyze and present the diverse range of impacts through the perspectives of liberal, conservative and moderate Floridians, ensuring coverage is fair and inclusive.

Include residents, experts, advocates and policymakers in reporting to provide depth and context to reporting.

Facilitate and participate in interactive discussions with Floridians and political leadership to surface real concerns and answer pressing questions.

Use audience engagement and feedback to shape future coverage and respond to emerging needs.

Create videos that explain critical issues in an engaging way.

Uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, accuracy and impartiality.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field.

3+ years of professional reporting experience, preferably in government or political coverage.

Familiarity with Florida’s political landscape and key state issues.

Demonstrated ability to analyze complex policy issues and explain their real-world impact.

Strong interviewing, research and writing skills.

Ability to report with nuance and sensitivity to varying political viewpoints.
