
A financial client in the Cincinnati area is looking for a mid level SDET to join their team for a direct hire opportunity. The SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) / SQA Test Automation Engineer III is a hands-on automation-focused role responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality automated tests across both UI and API layers. This engineer works closely with Automation Engineer III peers and management to help define, implement, and continuously improve the organization's test automation framework, standards, and best practices.
This role is critical to ensuring the quality, consistency, and long-term sustainability of functional test automation. While specific tools are used today, a strong understanding of automation concepts, object-oriented programming, and testing fundamentals is the most important qualification-tools can be learned.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain automated functional test scripts for both UI and API testing
• Contribute to and support the evolution of the test automation framework, including identifying opportunities for improvements in scalability, maintainability, and efficiency
• Lead and support test automation initiatives, including establishing standards, guidelines, and best practices
• Develop robust, reusable, and sustainable automation solutions using tools such as Selenium and Java-based frameworks
• Collaborate closely with developers, QA engineers, business analysts, and project managers throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Support continuous testing efforts within the software delivery pipeline by improving test coverage and execution efficiency
Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to peers and junior automation engineers

Required Skills & Experience • 3+ years of hands-on experience in software test engineering following the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) • 3+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks, with strong experience using Selenium • Strong programming experience in Java • Object-oriented programming experience is required (Java preferred; other OOP languages acceptable) • 2+ years of hands-on experience with API testing • Experience with tools such as Postman or ReadyAPI / SoapUI is acceptable • Solid understanding of automation design principles, testing strategies, and software quality best practices • Experience working with source control and build tools such as Git and Maven 1+ year of experience working with databases and SQL for test data setup and validation
Nice to Have Skills & Experience • Experience with Katalon for UI automation • Experience with Java testing frameworks such as JUnit or TestNG • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing practices Experience automating tests in complex, integrated application environments
