Job Description Database Administration & Operations:

Take charge of installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining PostgreSQL and Oracle database environments across all systems, including development, testing, staging, and production.

Manage database instances, schemas, users, and storage structures to ensure top-notch performance and reliability.

Continuously monitor and fine-tune database performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to enhance throughput and response times.

High Availability, Backup & Recovery:

Design and oversee high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, such as replication, clustering, Data Guard, streaming replication, and failover strategies.

Establish and manage effective backup, recovery, and retention policies utilizing tools like RMAN for Oracle and pgBackRest or similar for PostgreSQL.

Conduct regular disaster recovery tests and meticulously document procedures.

Security & Compliance:

Implement robust database security policies, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with both organizational and regulatory standards.

Proactively apply patches, perform vulnerability assessments, and support audits by providing necessary database evidence and documentation.

Development & Optimization:

Collaborate closely with developers, architects, and application teams to design efficient database schemas, queries, indexes, and stored procedures.

Perform code reviews, conduct performance tuning, and optimize queries to elevate application performance.

Automate administrative tasks using scripting languages (such as Bash and Python) and leverage infrastructure-as-code tools.

Monitoring & Troubleshooting:

Implement and maintain comprehensive database monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues.

Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for database incidents, including performance degradation and outages.

Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation and planned maintenance activities.

Responsibilities Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

7+ years

of hands-on experience as a production DBA managing large-scale

PostgreSQL and Oracle

environments.

Proven experience with database installation, configuration, patching, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.

Expertise in replication, clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.

Strong skills in SQL and PL/pgSQL/PL/SQL, focusing on query optimization and indexing strategies.

Proficient in database monitoring and automation tools (e.g., Oracle Enterprise Manager).

Exceptional scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation and operational tasks.

COMPTIA Security + CE or equivalent.

US DoD TS/SCI security clearance.

Preferred: Experience with database migrations, cloud platforms (AWS RDS, Azure Database, Oracle Cloud), or hybrid environments.

Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).

Certifications such as

Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

or

PostgreSQL Professional Certification

are highly desirable.

Soft Skills Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Strong communication and documentation skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.

Leadership mindset with mentoring capabilities and strategic thinking.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
