
Director, Field Medical Affairs - Remote Position

Role Summary
The Director of Field Medical is a field-based leadership role that manages the US field-based Medical Affairs team. This position provides therapeutic area and product expertise for solid tumor indications across multiple customer segments and initiatives. The role plans and executes medical engagements and oversees the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team, working closely with Commercial and Clinical counterparts to contribute to Puma's medical vision and strategy. Remote position.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute the national strategy for engaging oncology key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), payers, centers of excellence, and other decision makers
Manage the Medical Affairs field-based team, providing operational strategies and day-to-day guidance on developing collaborative relationships with the healthcare community
Lead hiring, goal setting, performance evaluations and all other aspects related to direct report supervision within Field Medical
Maintain deep knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas and Puma products, providing therapeutic area and product information to both internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrate expertise in communicating across multiple channels including in-person and virtual presentations in small or large settings, written communications, and via telephone
Understand the priorities of Puma Medical Affairs in order to contribute to the development of medical content and execution of strategically aligned Field Medical tactics
Provide operational strategies for monitoring the competitive environment to build and sustain expertise in therapeutic areas, new therapies, and competitive products, and provide feedback to senior management on specific initiatives
Work directly with KOLs to 1) develop scientific education activities and 2) support the development of advisory boards and other scientific meetings with HCPs to gather input on areas of medical importance to Puma
Represent Puma and engage scientifically at oncology focused national and regional conferences, meetings, and other scientific venues
Serve as a conduit to and resource for Medical Information and customer insights, ensuring that the information provided to HCPs is scientifically accurate and appropriately communicated
In conjunction with the development team, support the evaluation and prioritization of external clinical research opportunities that inform the Investigator Sponsored Trial (IST) program
Support training for the broader Medical Affairs team
Manage a database to capture and report activities of the MSL team to Senior Management
Manage the collection and synthesis of actionable insights to support Medical Affairs strategy and decision-making across therapeutic areas
Support the development and presentation of quarterly business reviews, reports, and data narratives to senior leadership, showcasing Medical Affairs' impact
Help to drive digital transformation within Medical Affairs, identifying and implementing innovative tools and platforms to enhance engagement, efficiency, and insights generation
Knowledge in and responsibility for collaborating with functional areas and initiatives outside of Field Medical, including, but not limited to, Medical Information, Publications, Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Operations, and Clinical Development
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum of 6 years of experience in Medical Affairs in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry with previous experience successfully leading an MSL team
Required:
Oncology experience
Preferred:
Doctorate in health science or clinical discipline strongly preferred
Preferred:
Proven success in a new product launch
Skills
Ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific / medical components of drug products to the medical community and other key internal and external audiences
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to network and collaborate
Ability to respond appropriately to the needs of key stakeholders and manage expectations; excellent project management skills and follow through
Demonstrated ability to excel in smaller organizations
Excellent computer skills and familiarity with software and database tools
Additional Requirements
Travel: Ability to travel nationally, up to 60% with overnight stays
Physical Demands: The role requires extended periods of sitting and using office equipment; occasional standing, walking, lifting up to 25 pounds; and vision requirements (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus)
