DECATOR-MORGAN COUNTY CHAMBER The mission of the Decatur–Morgan County Chamber of Commerce is to advance business and strengthen commerce across the region through dedicated volunteer leadership in economic, political, and social development. Established in 1931 by the late Barrett C. Shelton, the Chamber has long served as a trusted advocate and catalyst for the business community. Today, it represents approximately 800 member businesses and industries, the majority of which are small to mid‑sized enterprises that form the backbone of the local economy.

Grounded in the belief that a strong business climate is essential to a thriving community, the Chamber delivers programs and services designed to support business growth, improve operational excellence, foster professional development, and champion sound public policy.

OUR NEXT PRESIDENT & CEO The Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce seeks a collaborative and strategic executive with a proven record of organizational leadership and community impact. This is a compelling opportunity for an experienced leader to guide a respected institution, strengthen regional partnerships, and advance a dynamic and growing business community. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting contribution while leading in a region known for its economic vitality and quality of life.

The President & CEO of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce serves as the chief executive officer of the 501c6 organization and is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the Chamber. Reporting to and guided by policies established by the Board of Directors, the President & CEO ensures the effective, efficient, and mission-driven management of all day-to-day operations.

This role provides oversight and accountability for organizational strategy, program development and execution, membership recruitment, engagement and retention, financial stewardship, and the leadership and supervision of Chamber staff. The President & CEO cultivates a high-performing team culture and ensures operational excellence across all areas of the organization.

As the primary spokesperson for the Chamber, the President & CEO builds and sustains strong, collaborative relationships with key community stakeholders.

The President & CEO advances the Chamber’s mission — to promote business and commerce in the Decatur and Morgan County area through volunteer leadership in economic, political, and social development — by fostering strategic partnerships, advocating for a pro‑business environment, and positioning the Chamber as a trusted and influential leader within the region.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide strategic leadership to advance the economic vitality of Decatur and Morgan County through impactful programs and initiatives.

Lead, develop, and align committees, and volunteer leadership to execute the Chamber’s strategic priorities.

Serve as the chief spokesperson and public representative of the organization, effectively communicating its vision, advocacy positions, and value to members and stakeholders.

Build and maintain strong partnerships with governmental, educational, workforce, and business leaders to strengthen the regional economy and talent pipeline.

Drive membership growth, engagement, and retention to ensure a robust and diverse member base.

Oversee financial management in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer, ensuring fiscal responsibility and long‑term sustainability.

Lead revenue generation efforts, including the Total Resource Campaign and capital initiatives, to support organizational growth and impact.

Leads, develops, and manages a high-performing professional team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Prior leadership experience in a Chamber of Commerce, association, or nonprofit organization strongly preferred.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Graduate of U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management preferred but not required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The compensation package will include a competitive salary based upon the candidate’s level of professional experience. The Chamber also offers a dynamic benefits package, including, but not limited to paid holidays, paid time off, medical insurance, dental insurance, long term disability, life insurance, and retirement plan.

REQUIRED RESIDENCE It is expected that the successful candidate will live within Morgan County, once employed.
