
The Director of Information Technology’s role is to provide vision and leadership for technology initiatives. This role is responsible for supervising the team that manages the School’s data, analytics, technology, information security, technical services, and professional development for non-teaching staff related to these areas of responsibility. The role directs the planning and implementation of enterprise IT systems in support of School operations in order to improve cost effectiveness, service quality, and School development. The director proposes budgets for programs and projects, purchases and upgrades equipment, supervises computer specialists and IT workers, and presides over IT-related projects. The qualified candidate is a culturally competent team player with five years of experience in technology, and ideally 2-3 years of experience in leadership. The Director of Information Technology works closely with nearly every department chair or supervisor at the School.
For this position in particular, employees hired to fill the role will inherit a high-functioning team and will benefit from ongoing knowledge transfer and support from the COO (who led the team until 2022) while coming up to speed to take direct leadership of the day-to-day operations of the department.
Compensation: $125,000 - $160,000 annually
Essential Functions
Provide strategic leadership of the School’s technology programs and information services, guiding the direction, management, operation of shared information services across the School
Lead, guide, and oversee the institutional technology budgeting process
Following the School’s mission as well as the guidance of the Senior Director of Educational Digital Strategy and other School’s academic leadership, determine the priorities, projects, and future directions of the School's information services
Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of integrated, strategic IT plans and policies for the School
Maintain client-facing documentation for new and current employees on a variety of systems and applications in common use at the school
Consult with administration, faculty, and staff to exchange information, present new approaches, and to discuss equipment/system changes
Conduct vendor contract negotiations for all new computer equipment and software purchased for the School
Produce a cost-benefit analysis as well as supporting a detailed definition of data requirements and departmental workflows
Manage the day-to-day operations of the Technology Department including directing staff who support administrative computing, networking, user services, software development, A/V services, telecommunications and other technical and information functions
Assess and anticipate technology projects and recommend appropriate action and resources
With the Infrastructure Administrator, assess and mitigate cybersecurity risk in the area of information security by implementing systems and processes for reporting and developing policies to protect the School
Provide professional development for faculty and staff related to Information Technology and emerging technologies (e.g., phishing, cybersecurity, deepfakes)
Propose hardware/software solutions to accomplish the company's business objectives
Identify user needs and resolve problems
Attend local, regional, and national conferences to seek out personal and School-wide professional development, and to bolster and continue the School’s nationwide leadership in the field of independent school innovation and technology
Maintain knowledge and understanding of current and developing information systems technology, equipment, and systems
Supervise the School’s Technology student interns each summer, advertising the internship opportunity, soliciting student interest, reviewing candidates with faculty, and, with the Helpdesk staff, provide day-to-day supervision of the interns
Master’s Degree, or equivalent; or 6-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience .
Additional Experience
Must have exemplary communication skills, and the ability to effectively manage trainings and presentations on complex and sometimes controversial topics to all constituents of the school
Must have proven problem solving skills, be self motivated, and adaptable
Strong analytic skills and interpretation skills required
Strong leadership skills are required as a supervisor

Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Working near moving mechanical parts. Working with moderate to loud noise levels.
