UX Writer — Boston, MA — 100% Remote — Contract — $40/hr - $45/hr
This is a fully remote, full-time UX Writer opportunity with a leading electric and utility company, supporting digital products used by millions of customers across the East Coast. The team builds and maintains customer-facing and internal platforms that support energy usage, billing, outages, and service management. You’ll work closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineers to shape clear, compliant, and user-friendly content across web and application experiences.
This role is perfect for a UX Writer who understands that language matters even more in regulated industries. The team is specifically looking for someone with prior experience in electric or utility environments who already understands the terminology, constraints, and customer expectations that come with energy services. You’ll have the chance to influence large-scale digital experiences, improve clarity during critical user moments (like outages and billing), and help modernize how customers interact with essential services — all while maintaining strong work-life balance in a fully remote setup.

Content creation within digital products (web & applications)
Collaboration with UX, Product, and Engineering teams
Content refinement for compliance, clarity, and consistency
Required Skills & Experience
Professional experience as a UX Writer, Content Designer, or Product Writer
Prior experience working at an electric or utility company (required)
Strong understanding of utility-specific language (billing, outages, service requests, usage, meters, rates, etc.)
Experience writing UX microcopy, error messaging, onboarding flows, and in-product content
Ability to collaborate closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineers
Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments
Must be based on the East Coast (US)
Desired Skills & Experience
Experience supporting large-scale customer-facing platforms
Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive language standards
Experience working with design systems and content guidelines
Background in simplifying complex or technical information for end users
Experience contributing to content strategy or voice-and-tone frameworks
