The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is the largest unified trial court in the United States. The Court’s 58 judicial officers and its dedicated workforce of over 4,600 full‑time employees serve across 36 facilities to provide equal access to justice to all of Los Angeles County. About the Position Court Reporters
are responsible for providing accurate verbatim reporting of proceedings in all required or requested court hearings, including civil, criminal, juvenile, and grand jury cases. Reporters provide real‑time reporting services to judicial officers, prepare transcripts in accordance with applicable Government Codes, Rules of Court, and Statutes, and offer read‑back upon request. Multiple positions are available throughout LA County; this role is not eligible for telework.
Compensation
Full‑time: $11,117.91 – $11,423.18 Monthly
Part‑time 3/5: $6,540.71 – $6,720.38 Monthly
Daily as needed: $511.17 – $525.20 Full Day
Half Day: $250.60 – $257.49
Applicants with courtroom experience may be eligible for salary negotiation.

The Los Angeles Superior Court offers a Finder’s Fee of up to $15,000 for eligible employees. Court Reporter applicants may nominate up to two individuals to receive the Finder’s Fee, with the amount split equally if two names are provided.

90‑day real‑time reporting acclimation period, allowing the court reporter to work in different litigation areas and build litigation‑specific dictionaries.
Selection Requirements
A current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license issued by the Court Reporters Board of California
Real‑time reporting capability*
Computer‑aided transcription (CAT) capability
Paperless writer equipped with one form of removable memory in addition to internal memory – or voice‑writing equipment
Court Reporters are required to provide real‑time reporting to Judicial Officers after an optional 90‑day acclimation period.
Note A valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation is required to carry out job‑related essential functions.

Evaluation:
Qualifying evaluation of certification and selection requirements based on submitted application materials.
Eligibility:
Applicants who meet selection requirements are placed on an eligible list valid up to one year and may be invited to an oral interview. This includes equipment verification, real‑time capability, a transcription and read‑back exercise to demonstrate knowledge, skills, abilities, and readiness.
Candidates who receive a Court Reporter job offer must install professional court‑reporting software on their laptop before beginning employment.
