Job Summary The City of Danville is seeking a qualified Community Relations Coordinator to join our team!

At the City of Danville, we care deeply about our citizens’ quality of life. We are seeking a Community Relations Coordinator to help us fulfill four primary functions.

Provide organizational support to the Community Relations Administrator.

Plan and implement successful and positive events that benefit the culture of Danville.

Foster and increase positive relationships with community partners and neighborhood associations.

Improve our image both within and outside of our community.

As the Community Relations Coordinator, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with the community, stakeholders, and media outlets. You will be responsible for coordinating and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance our organization’s reputation and promote our mission.

Wage / Salary $45,680 - $55,000

Duties / Responsibilities The following examples are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Demonstrate honesty and integrity in professional and personal attitudes/behavior to appropriately represent yourself, the City, and the Mayor.

Continually improve and manage programs, events, and activities (such as First Fridays, Holiday events, and The Vermilion River Fall Festival), that have a positive impact on the community and our people including all logistical responsibilities.

Assist with soliciting corporate and individual sponsorships as well as vendor fees to offset the costs of the City’s public events.

Create and maintain a robust volunteer program including volunteer appreciation initiatives and maintain a database of volunteers tracking volunteer hours contributed during City events.

Plan and organize employee events such as holiday luncheons, staff retreats, etc.

Collaborating closely with the Community Relations Administrator, providing support to Neighborhood Associations, attending NHA meetings from time-to-time, including planning and implementing the annual NHA Conference.

Assist with creating and sharing content for all social, digital, and web marketing and communications on behalf of the City of Danville, as a pivotal part of changing the perception of Danville and telling a new story, strategically utilizing the City’s tag line, logo, pillars, style guide, etc.

Conduct research and respond to requests for information.

Days per week Monday - Friday

Qualifications

Minimum of a two (2) year college degree in community relations or a related field. Equivalent coursework and training in the field of communications, marketing, public relations, business marketing, or related subject areas may also be considered.

At least two (2) years of work experience in community relations, event management, communications, marketing, public relations, business marketing, or a related field.

Excellent communication skills, including professional level knowledge of business English, grammar, and spelling, as well as the ability to compose professional correspondence.

Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team, including establishing and maintaining highly effective working relationships.

Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and carry out large-scale community events.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently and efficiently to meet deadlines with the ability to be nimble in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related writing, presentation, and publication software.
