Position Description

The individual will provide design services and technical support for all electronic flow measurement (EFM) equipment used at Kinder Morgan natural gas measurement and control stations, and must possess the ability to associate with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism. One position to be located in either Colorado Springs, CO; Houston, TX; Birmingham, AL; or Downers Grove, IL depending upon successful the successful candidate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specify EFM equipment

Specify peripheral equipment (enclosures, power supplies, solar power systems, transmitters, modems, cabling, terminal blocks, I.S. barriers, etc.)

Write application programs for Emerson FB3000 products using FBxDesigner

Write application programs for Emerson Control Wave products using ControlWave Designer

Write and interpret Function Sequence Tables (FST) for Emerson ROCs

Evaluate new EFM equipment

Work with vendors on EFM panel design

Provide factory acceptance and site acceptance testing of EFM systems

Provide engineering support to operations on a daily basis

Troubleshoot hardware and software issues found in the field

Use lab facilities to emulate and resolve issues found in the field

Write documentation for EFM systems

Train field personnel in use of EFM equipment

Apply the company's design and operating philosophy within the field locations to meet corporate goals for safety, regulatory compliance, efficiency, and profitability

Develop and generate project scope documents, schedules, cost estimates, budget forecasts as required with moderate direction from supervisor

Effectively prioritize workload between several projects

Significantly contributes to meeting business objectives by generating and implementing project ideas

Regular and predictable attendance

Position Requirements

Education

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited University, having a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

Applicants without an Engineering degree having ten years of relevant industry experience, will also be considered

Experience/Specific Knowledge

Design practices, processes, and procedures related to natural gas measurement, which allow for managing by remote control

Intimate familiarity with one or more of the flow computer types mentioned in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

Prior programming experience with one or more of the application programming languages mentioned in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities is strongly preferred.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Possess project management skills used in the development of project documents such as project scope, schedule, budget forecasting, cost analysis, and risk identification/mitigation and be capable of communicating this information using well-developed written and verbal skills.

Travels from 15-20% of time to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays

Carry a cell phone and be on-call to respond to calls from Gas Control, field personnel or Management, related to operational problems on the measurement and SCADA system

Read and interpret engineering drawings and diagrams such as P&ID, electrical, & process

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to company

Ability to speak and understand English

Additional advantageous skills and abilities

Knowledge of measurement standards, policies and procedures

Familiarity with the API flow calculation standards

Experience working with relational databases

Knowledge of electrical design standards

Knowledge of products pipeline operations

Knowledge of industry’s regulatory compliance requirements and standards

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This position may perform other duties as assigned. Compensation: $104,300 - $192,900 per year Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
