You Are We are seeking a seasoned and visionary Energy Industry Leader to spearhead the digital transformation of the world's leading energy companies. This executive role is focused on establishing Google Cloud as the essential platform for the energy sector as it navigates the global energy transition, optimizes operations, and innovates for a sustainable future.

The Work You will be responsible for helping companies across the entire energy value chain—from oil and gas and utilities to renewables—harness the power of Google Cloud's Data, AI, and agentic technologies. The ideal candidate will have deep industry credibility, a thorough understanding of the sector's complexities, and a powerful vision for how technology can create a more efficient, resilient, and lower‑carbon energy system.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Industry Leadership: You will be the chief architect and driver of Google Cloud's comprehensive go‑to‑market strategy for the global energy industry. This involves developing and executing a clear vision for how Google Cloud can support traditional oil and gas operations, accelerate the growth of renewables, and modernize utility grids. You will serve as the senior voice of the energy customer within Google, translating the industry's critical needs—such as subsurface data analysis, predictive maintenance, and energy trading optimization—into actionable strategies for our product, engineering, and infrastructure teams.

Energy Transition and Sustainability: You will act as a key advisor to C‑level executives on their most pressing challenge: the energy transition. You will guide them in leveraging Google Cloud to achieve their sustainability and decarbonization goals. This includes developing solutions for managing renewable energy portfolios, optimizing carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects, creating green hydrogen value chains, and providing transparent, data‑driven ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting.

Operational and Engineering Transformation: You will lead the charge in modernizing the core operational and engineering functions of energy companies. This involves helping upstream companies accelerate exploration by applying AI to seismic and subsurface data on our high‑performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. You will also drive the adoption of digital twins, IoT, and AI for predictive maintenance on critical assets like refineries, pipelines, and wind turbines, thereby increasing safety, reducing downtime, and improving operational efficiency.

Data, AI, and Grid Modernization: You will champion the use of Google's powerful Data and AI platforms to create intelligent energy systems. This includes helping utilities build smart grids that are more resilient, flexible, and capable of managing distributed energy resources (DERs). You will spearhead the use of AI for advanced energy demand forecasting, real‑time energy trading, and asset optimization. Furthermore, you will drive the use of generative AI and intelligent agents to assist field engineers, automate complex operational workflows, and enhance customer engagement for energy retailers.

Ecosystem and Thought Leadership: You will be responsible for building and nurturing a world‑class ecosystem of partners critical to the energy sector, including geoscience software vendors, industrial IoT specialists, equipment manufacturers, and system integrators. As the public face and thought leader for Google Cloud in Energy, you will represent us at major industry events like CERAWeek and ADIPEC, engage with regulatory bodies, and articulate a compelling vision for the secure, intelligent, and sustainable future of the energy industry.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.

Here’s what you need

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Petroleum, Chemical, Electrical), Geoscience, Computer Science (or a related field) or equivalent (minimum 12 years) work experience. (If Associate’s Degree, must have minimum 6 years work experience)

Minimum of 15 years of experience in a senior leadership role within the energy industry (e.g., at an energy supermajor, national oil company, major utility, or leading renewables developer).

Minimum of 7 years of deep domain expertise across the energy value chain, from upstream exploration and production to midstream, downstream, power generation, or utilities.

Minimum of 7 years of experience and proven track record of leading large‑scale, technology‑driven business transformation projects within an energy context.

Bonus points if you have

Master's degree or PhD in a relevant technical or business field.

Direct experience with public cloud platforms (preferably Google Cloud) for demanding technical workloads like high‑performance computing (HPC), industrial IoT, or large‑scale data analytics.

Demonstrated success in deploying AI/ML solutions to drive measurable outcomes in areas such as subsurface characterization, asset maintenance, yield optimization, or energy trading.

An extensive and active network of executive‑level relationships with leaders at major energy companies, service providers, and regulatory bodies.

Exceptional executive presence, with the credibility to advise senior energy executives and serve as an influential industry evangelist for digital transformation.
