VIDEO EDITOR – YOUTUBE & SHORTS (Contract / Remote)About the Channel
Layman's Lawyer is a growing legal commentary YouTube channel focused on real-world legal issues, case myths, insurance tactics, and consumer awareness. The tone is smart, comic (hopefully), authoritative and accessible.
We publish:
- 1 long-form video per week (10–20 minutes)
- 3–5 short-form clips (YouTube Shorts, Reels, TikTok)
We're looking for a creative editor who understands YouTube storytelling, pacing, and retention — not just cutting footage.
What You'll Do
- Edit 1 long-form YouTube episode per week (10–20 min)
- Create 3–5 short clips (30–150 seconds) optimized for retention
- Add dynamic captions, punch-ins, graphics, and light motion elements
- Insert B-roll, screenshots, news clippings, and visual references
- Help identify strong "hook moments" for Shorts
- Deliver optimized files for YouTube and social
What We're Looking For
- Strong YouTube editing portfolio (must include talking-head content)
- Understanding of retention pacing and audience hooks
- Clean, modern graphic style (not cheesy templates)
- Ability to make professional content feel engaging and tight
- Strong English comprehension (legal nuance matters)
- Reliable turnaround (3–5 days per episode)
Bonus:
- Experience editing legal, financial, or commentary channels
- Understanding of YouTube analytics and CTR
Compensation
Contract basis – per episode + shorts bundle
Open to monthly retainer for the right fit.
