
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Watertown, MA office is looking for an Entry Level Highway Designer to join our team. Our team uses its skills and experience to improve our community’s highway and roadway infrastructure with an integrated, context-driven, and innovative project delivery mindset. Our clients include MassDOT Highway Division, local Cities and Towns, MBTA, Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR), other state public agencies, Colleges and Universities, and private developers.
Responsibilities
Work within a team of design, engineering, and construction professionals in developing transportation design solutions for a multitude of projects
Roadway design
Drainage design
Utility design
Traffic control development
Preliminary and final design plans
Contract documents, including specifications
Engineer’s construction cost estimates and schedules
Construction phase services
Field inspection
Traditional and alternative design development and project delivery including design-build
Work on interdisciplinary design teams and collaborate and coordinate with engineers and contractors with specialties in bridge, traffic, environmental, utilities, and stormwater.
Skills And Attributes
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Comfortable working independently as well as on a team
Detail oriented, self-motivated, and committed
Strong computer skills
Critical thinking and problem solving
Qualifications
Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering
0-1 years of professional transportation engineering experience
EIT, or EIT in process, is a plus
Roadway design experience is a plus
AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is a strong plus
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $80,000-83,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
