Position Overview
We are seeking a technically strong Corrugated Packaging Designer with hands‑on structural design experience in a U.S. manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing and refining corrugated packaging solutions that meet customer specifications, production capabilities, and performance standards.
The ideal candidate has direct experience designing RSC, FOL, die cuts, displays, and inserts, and is proficient in ArtiosCAD or equivalent CAD software. This is an onsite role requiring close collaboration with sales, production, and tooling teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design corrugated packaging including:
Regular Slotted Containers (RSC)
Full Overlap (FOL)
Die cuts
Displays
Inserts
Create and modify 2D structural drawings using ArtiosCAD or AutoCAD.
Develop layouts and physical samples that meet customer requirements and manufacturing constraints.
Improve existing designs for performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
Quantify cutting rule for dies to assist in tooling cost estimation during quoting.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Partner with sales to translate customer needs into viable packaging solutions.
Work closely with production and tooling teams to ensure manufacturability on flexos, die cutters, and glues.
Assist in troubleshooting structural or fit issues during production.
Coordinate with tooling vendors and graphic teams for print plate alignment and structural accuracy.
Material & Performance Expertise
Apply knowledge of corrugated materials including:
Flute profiles
Board grades (ECT, Mullen)
Board combinations
Stacking strength and compression requirements
Determine appropriate board specifications based on product protection and shipping conditions.
Prepare detailed manufacturing specifications.
Documentation & Quality
Maintain organized design files, revisions, board specs, and tooling documentation.
Follow change management and revision control procedures.
Ensure compliance with internal and customer quality standards.
Utilize TOPS or similar performance tools when required.
Required Qualifications (High Priority)
3+ years designing corrugated packaging (RSC, FOL, die cuts, displays, inserts).
Minimum 2+ years in corrugated packaging or related manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated experience developing structural layouts and samples aligned with manufacturing capabilities.
Experience collaborating cross‑functionally with sales, production, and tooling teams.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in ArtiosCAD (required).
Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
Strong understanding of:
Flutes and board grades
Stacking strength and compression metrics
Packaging performance standards
Ability to create and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with digital cutting tables (e.g., Kongsberg).
Knowledge of flexographic printing processes.
Familiarity with TOPS or packaging performance standards.
Adobe Illustrator knowledge.
Experience in small to mid‑sized manufacturing companies (50–250 employees).
Education
Associate degree in Packaging, Engineering, Industrial Design, CAD Drafting, or related field OR
Equivalent practical experience with demonstrated corrugated design expertise.
Work Location & Commute
Full‑time onsite role in Baltimore, MD.
Preference for candidates within the Baltimore metro area, including Towson, Columbia, Laurel, Annapolis, Silver Spring, and Washington, D.C.
Practical commute recommendation: Up to approximately 1.5 hours each way.
Limited relocation assistance available.
