About the Role:
Our client is seeking a seasoned Wholesale Excess Liability Underwriter to help build and manage a profitable book of business while shaping underwriting best practices. This role requires deep expertise in excess liability, strong wholesale broker relationships, and the ability to evaluate complex risks with sound judgment. You will operate with autonomy, collaborate closely with brokers, and contribute to the development of junior underwriting talent. This is a high‑impact opportunity for someone who enjoys both strategic influence and hands‑on underwriting execution. Candidates must be based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Key Responsibilities:
Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers and retail agents. Serve as a consultative partner to support placement of excess liability coverage. Evaluate and analyze risks for acceptability based on underwriting guidelines and individual risk characteristics. Manage a profitable book of excess liability business, including new submissions, renewals, and endorsements. Exercise sound judgment in pricing, coverage terms, deductibles, and forms. Deliver timely quotes and binders in alignment with service level expectations. Operate within defined underwriting authority and elevate complex risks when appropriate. Work independently with accountability, initiative, and minimal oversight. Mentor and support junior underwriters, contributing to a collaborative and innovative underwriting culture. Participate in workflow improvements and help refine underwriting best practices. Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of insurance underwriting experience within wholesale environments. Strong background in General Liability and Excess Liability underwriting. Proven ability to build and maintain wholesale broker relationships and strategically grow a book of business. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills. Bachelor’s degree preferred; industry designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or AU are a plus. Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound underwriting decisions. Must be located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
