Primary Responsibilities HDR has an exceptional opportunity for a motivated individual to support the cultural resources program on the Sterling Highway MP 45-60 project in Cooper Landing, Alaska. We are looking for an individual with safety and logistics expertise. Willing to work long hours outside. This person must be willing to coordinate with a large team and work with leadership to make critical decisions. Working with management in the Anchorage, Alaska office, the individual will be based in Cooper Landing, Alaska for the field season and will perform assignments under the direct supervision of the Project Manager.

The primary duties of the field superintendent may include:

Show up to work each day on-time and prepared.

Assist with the development and review of Job Hazard Assessments (JHA) forms and the Site-Specific Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) Plan; oversee implementation of these documents.

Lead and document daily safety meetings.

Work with field and camp management to:

Coordinate crew logistics

Ensure the application of safe work practices by the field crew

Confirm employees' suitability for work

Ensure reporting of all incidents in accordance with HDR reporting procedures

Convey client needs and project objectives to field crew

Assist field management in overseeing and coordinating archaeological field crew, providing guidance and enforcement on safety and other project protocols.

Monitor on-site hazards and conditions and document safety inspections.

Ensure availability and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Monitor field team for head and cold stress.

Provide oversight for site access for visitors and conduct visitor orientations.

Coordinate with and report back to Project Manager daily on field work.

Hike over rugged terrain for up to 8 – 10 hours a day, upwards of 40+ hours per week, while carrying necessary field equipment.

Use GPS units for navigation.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Significant physical work is a primary part of this job. The successful applicant will be required to conduct heavy physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds.

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which will require following basic safety precautions.

Work may involve exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.

Work requires hiking and working in rugged terrain.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years of experience in field safety and/or logistics

Experience working on sensitive projects with complex teams

Preference will be given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent

A minimum of 5 years experience

Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
