The Electrical Controls Designer I supports the development and maintenance of electrical control panel designs and schematics used in conveyor systems. Working closely with Controls Engineering and Panel Shop leadership, this role helps produce accurate, standardized panel designs that meet safety, quality, and performance requirements.
This position is well suited for someone early in their career who is interested in industrial controls and electrical design and is looking to build technical skills through hands‑on experience, structured processes, and training in the EPLAN software suite.
Responsibilities
Support the development and maintenance of electrical panel designs and system schematics
Assist in maintaining standards for electrical design and panel wiring
Create and verify bills of material (BOMs) for electrical panels
Assist with component selection under the guidance of senior designers and engineers
Learn and apply company standards, safety requirements, and design guidelines
Use EPLAN (P8 / Pro Panel) to create and maintain schematics, reports, and standardized libraries
Collaborate with Controls Engineering and Panel Shop teams to support efficient panel builds
Assist with troubleshooting electrical panels during build and testing
Participate in quality checks and audits to ensure design accuracy and compliance
Actively seek learning opportunities to stay current with applicable technologies, products, and standards
Qualifications
0–2 years of experience or education related to industrial electrical or controls design
Familiarity with electrical schematics and control panels
Exposure to EPLAN (P8 / Pro Panel) or similar electrical design software preferred
Basic understanding of industrial communication architectures and safety concepts
Foundational knowledge of UL508A, NFPA 79, and NFPA 70 (NEC) preferred
Basic understanding of load calculations for single-phase and three-phase applications
Experience with electrical installation, PLC programming, or troubleshooting is a plus
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn from experienced designers and engineers
Education Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Control Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
