Description of Work The

Assistant Director, Association of Students of the University of Nebraska (ASUN)

provides leadership, advisement, and operational oversight to the comprehensive student government at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This position acts as a liaison between students, staff, and administration to foster engagement, leadership and successful campus-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

Serve as an advisor and provide leadership development opportunities to ASUN Committees, Appointment boards, Electoral commission Freshman Campus Leadership Associates and other formal committees.

Oversee student‑led programming and event planning for campus‑wide events, including Homecoming, Earthstock, student leadership retreat, and other events throughout the year.

Lead and supervise the ASUN office staff.

Participate in ASUN operational strategic planning and assist in the development and management of the departmental budget.

Develop and submit quarterly and annual reports for the department.

Serve as a member of the ASUN Executive Team Advisory council.

Attend various ASUN senate, committee, and departmental meetings.

This position may have irregular hours based on department events, needs of the student government, and meeting requirements.

Minimum Required Qualifications

2 years of experience working within education, higher education, or a similar field.

Experience working with student government, student clubs, student organizations, or other student leadership groups.

Experience with public speaking and delivering presentations.

Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in leadership development.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability in time management, problem‑solving, and interpersonal communication.

Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle difficult situations and individuals using tact, diplomacy, and engagement.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous membership/leadership experience in college student government.

Experience with developing and managing budgets.

Experience planning and implementing student training.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. Subject to DOT‑approved pre‑employment & random testing for alcohol and controlled substances.
