About the Role The Regional Designer is responsible for leading the design portion of store improvement projects from concept to final approval for Do it Best Corp. member stores. This role blends strategy, spatial planning, visual storytelling, and direct member interaction to deliver store designs that are functional, brand-aligned, and sales-driven. Working closely with the Store Planning Designer, the Regional Designer takes ownership of the design strategy, develops presentation‑ready design packages, and serves as the primary contact for the member throughout the project. They collaborate with retail performance, sales, internal design teams, and vendors, and communicate design recommendations to members clearly and persuasively. A strong understanding of retail environments, visual merchandising, and shopper behavior is essential.
Responsibilities Store Design Project Leadership
Take the completed “As Built” floor plans and Matterport scans to begin store layout strategy and concept development.
Define department adjacencies, traffic flow, primary department, customer service areas, and any specialty features.
Create design packages including:
AutoCAD floor plans, elevations, signage plans
Interior 3D models with signage and material applications (SketchUp)
Exterior renderings when needed
Prepare professional, member‑facing digital presentations with layout strategy, visuals, and signage spec sheets.
Maintain accountability for the full design timeline and ensure timely delivery of all design phases.
Design Review & Finalization
Collaborate with Store Planning Designers to ensure drawings reflect design intent and are technically accurate.
Conduct thorough quality reviews to ensure consistency across all 2D and 3D design assets.
Provide revisions and updates based on member feedback, ensuring prompt turnarounds and presentation‑ready quality.
Ensure all design deliverables follow established department standards for materials, hatching, layering, and file organization.
Member Communication & Presentation
Schedule and lead virtual project kickoff meetings using provided “As Built” and Matterport assets.
Present initial and final design packages to members in digital or onsite meetings.
Clearly articulate design rationale, layout decisions, and branding strategies.
Address feedback, coordinate necessary updates, and guide members through final design approval.
Quote Support & Coordination
Review component quotes for signage, millwork, and décor after initial preparation by the Store Design Coordinator, ensuring they align with the final approved design package.
Confirm quantities, specifications, and pricing accuracy before sending to the member for approval.
Coordinate with the Store Design Coordinator to communicate any adjustments or revisions to vendors.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Promotion
Work with Territory Sales Managers, Retail Performance Managers, Store Planning Designers, and Store Design Coordinators throughout the project.
Support Signature Store Design program promotion during markets, events, and regional meetings.
Contribute to best practice development and design standards across the design team.
Education and Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architectural Design, Interior Design, Environmental Design, or a related field
3+ years of experience in retail store design, store planning, or commercial interiors
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suites
Experience creating and delivering professional design presentations to clients or stakeholders
Preferred
Experience in hardware, home center, or lumberyard retail design
Familiarity with Matterport‑based workflows and “As Built” plan development
Knowledge of signage, retail branding, and fixture systems
Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of spatial planning, fixture layout, and customer flow
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and time‑management abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Additional Considerations
Understanding of retail performance metrics and how layout impacts profitability
Exposure to marketing programs and how store layout supports promotions and sales
