Summary Responsible for conducting social media analysis by collecting and analyzing data across social media platforms in order to assist sworn peace officers conducting investigations in the Community Services and Criminal Investigations Divisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Analyze social media platforms, internet sites, and computer applications to develop raw intelligence to supplement police investigations.
Collate data from social media platforms into an organizational format for comparison and analysis.
Provide technical support and assistance for gang unit officers and criminal investigators.
Input and extract data from multiple sources and computer databases.
Evaluate law enforcement case developments and actively assist in intelligence collection and investigations.
Manage requests from Investigators for intelligence and background research on suspects.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
1-year related experience
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Computer Science or related field of study
2-4 years of experience in report writing, data collection, and social media analysis
Texas Department of Safety (DPS) National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) certification preferred not required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter and YouTube.
Comprehensive knowledge of messaging platforms such as Messenger, Discord and WhatsApp.
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Ability to work under pressure within time constraints
Ability to pass a background investigation and qualify for Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) access
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver's license
