SUMMARY: Maintains, organizes, and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics, including intramural activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in selecting, assigning, supervising, and evaluating all coaching personnel.

Assumes leadership role in the orientation and in service training of coaching personnel.

Maintains a current understanding of all IHSAA rules, procedures, and requirements, and monitors the athletic program in accordance with such rules.

Represents the Corporation in matters of interscholastic athletics with the IHSAA.

Represents the Corporation in matters of interscholastic athletics with each secondary league of affiliation.

Is responsible for the organization and scheduling of athletic events.

Contracts officials for all home contests.

Arranges transportation for away contests.

Develops and continues to evaluate appropriate rules, procedures, and policies governing the conduct of athletic activities.

Fosters good school-parent relations by maintaining communications relative to rules and regulations concerning athletics.

Establishes and enforces the physical, academic, and training requirements of eligibility for participation.

Coordinates interscholastic athletic programs.

Recommends, develops, and administers athletic schedules.

Consults, meets, and works with coaches to keep them informed on athletic program matters.

Supervises athletic facilities; schedules practice use schedules events use; and recommends maintenance and repairs for improvement.

Coordinates athletic events transportation and works with the director of transportation on schedule implementation.

Makes necessary arrangements for non-school facilities needed in the athletic program.

Responsible for coordinating overall supervision of athletic home events.

Coordinates with appropriate personnel starting and stopping times for pre-game and halftime programs.

Gathers necessary information needed to prepare and distribute event programs.

Coordinates and determines the need, in the establishment of a schedule of specific assignments for all athletic events.

Makes necessary arrangements for medical and security personnel at home events.

Develops schedule posters, pocket schedules, and other media necessary to publicize athletic programs.

Attends all meetings required of an athletic director.

Arranges for dressing facilities and paying of officials at home events.

Works with coaches in preparing budgets, securing bids, and purchasing equipment

Oversees distribution, collection, cleaning, storage, and inventory of materials, uniforms, and equipment.

Supervises eligibility certification of all athletes.

Completes proper accident reports.

Encourages continued professional development of all coaches.

Keeps accurate updated records of team and individual sports.

Responsible for preparation of athletic areas and facilities.

Evaluates all coaches.

Assists in recruiting top quality personnel when the need arises.

Coordinates all Pep Sessions.

Ensures that Title IX mandates are met within the athletic program.

Maintains appropriate appearance.

Ensures own regular and prompt attendance.

Effectively completes regular and other job performance criteria as assigned.

Promotes good public relations for the school district and community.

Remains free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages subordinate head coaches who supervise assistant and JV coaches in the Athletic Department.

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the corporation's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors or Masters degree, teaching and/or administrative experience preferred.

Varsity Coaching Experience required.

CERTIFICATES.LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

Four-year degree and ability to obtain license

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge or current research and theory in a specific field.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all corporation requirements and Board of Education policies.
