
Position Summary
The Instructional Designer will help develop training materials for the MyPortal K12 platform. This role is critical for designing innovative, user‑friendly training manuals and quick reference cards, re‑scripting and redesigning numerous webinar recordings into video snippets and ability to translate technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) into user‑friendly instructional steps for learners. Operating within an agile project management framework, this individual will create training materials with live system feature releases.
Scope of Work
Responsible for the design and delivery of high‑impact QRCs, modular video snippets and training manual(s).
Meet a "Critical Path" deadline of June 30 for essential workflows, followed by a full library completion by August 30.
Actively participate in sprint‑based cycles ensuring documentation is synchronized with technical feature deployments.
Managed via a high‑velocity output schedule requiring rapid iteration based on SME feedback
Key Responsibilities
Content Conversion, Creation & Manual Design
SOP Transformation: Review and interpret extensive technical SOPs to convert them into clear, engaging training and structured onboarding materials.
Innovative Manual Creation: Design and develop comprehensive MyPortal K12 training manual(s) using modern instructional frameworks (ADDIE/SAM) to ensure logical content structure that utilizes visual storytelling, interactive elements, and learner‑centric navigation.
Job Aid Development: Create high‑impact supplemental materials, including workbooks, quick reference guides (QRCs), and infographics.
Multimedia & Video Design & Refresh
Video Production: Use tools like Camtasia, Vyond, and Articulate Storyline to refresh existing webinar recordings and create new "video snippets" for the MPK12 platform.
Collaboration & Project Management
SME Partnership: Partner directly with subject matter experts to extract knowledge and ensure technical accuracy.
Stakeholder Review: Present design prototypes to project leadership for feedback and participate in iterative revision cycles.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in instructional design, with a strong portfolio of eLearning, training materials and quick reference cards.
Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge in enterprise authoring tool (Vyond preferred, with the ability to quickly ramp on others if needed.
Technical Writing: Exceptional ability to simplify highly technical content for learners without prior industry experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and pivot in response to changing business requirements.
Knowledge of SCORM/xAPI standards and experience publishing to a Learning Management System (LMS).
Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines for designing training materials in print and digital format that may be accessible to individuals with disabilities preferred.
