Primary Purpose To design and implement Individual Education Plans for children with academic and executive functioning needs. The Intervention Specialist will consider factors such as language, developmental level, and health status when making recommendations. The Intervention Specialist will provide classroom instruction and interventions and monitor student progress by collecting data. To ensure success, you need to make informed observations and design effective programs. Preferred applicants are knowledgeable, compassionate and have outstanding data analysis skills.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Provides an educational program for students as defined in the students Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.).

Works cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies, accommodating general education curriculum as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.

Teaches intervention‑level core courses in both self‑contained and co‑teaching/inclusion settings.

Communicates regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of students.

Assists the special education student in making an assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and vocational occupational goals in keeping with these abilities.

Develops and implements an Individualized Educational Program of each child, complimentary to his/her educational strengths and needs as defined through the multi‑factored evaluation and I.E.P. process, and Regular Education Curriculum.

Completes necessary reports and record keeping as required by state and local policies and procedures.

Participates in professional growth activities through staff development, in‑service, workshops, and higher education.

Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

Intervention specialist teaching license; additional content area license(s) preferred, but not required

Master’s degree preferred, but not required

Experience working with children with special needs, including Autism

Ability to design effective individualized academic and executive functioning interventions for diverse students

Proficient knowledge of classroom policies and procedures

Ability to teach in large and small group settings and/or co‑teaching in mainstream classrooms

Completion of criminal background checks

Outstanding communication skills

Strong people skills

Excellent observation and analytical skills
