Our enterprise work model, which blends in-office, hybrid, and fully remote roles, enables us to attract, retain, and develop top talent aligned with our strategic goals.This position offers flexibility and can be performed in a hybrid or fully remote arrangement.As Product Director for General Liability, Umbrella & Excess, you will lead initiatives in Product Development, Line of Business (LOB) Management, and Underwriting Guidance for Middle and Large liability lines.**Key Responsibilities:****Product & Underwriting*** Drive product development, including policy form creation, manuscripting, and filing memoranda.* Manage form, rule, and rate filings; oversee programming in policy systems.* Develop and execute state‑specific filing strategies aligned to underwriting intent, actuarial indications, and market conditions* Manage filings through SERFF, including direct engagement with state Departments of Insurance* Respond to regulator objections, interrogatories, and objections with clear, well‑supported rationale* Ensure filings are implemented accurately and timely in policy administration and rating systems* Monitor market trends and conduct competitor analysis.* Develop and refine underwriting guidance.* Serve as a consultative resource for underwriters on product, pricing, systems, and technical issues.* Lead cross-functional projects with Actuarial, Claims, Legal, Compliance, IT, and Operations.* Manage regulatory filings and maintain compliance standards.* Mentor product managers and promote data-driven decision-making.**LOB Management*** Analyze financial performance trends (rate, retention, pricing, segmentation, industry/geography mix).* Recommend and implement actions to achieve plan results and address shortfalls.* Track profitability metrics such as loss ratios, rate adequacy, segmentation, and retention.* Provide strategic and tactical recommendations based on regional and national performance.**Collaboration & Leadership*** Partner with business leaders, underwriters, and strategic stakeholders to drive results.* Lead initiatives through legal, compliance, and claims functions.**Qualifications*** Subject Matter Expertise in General Liability, Umbrella, and Excess.* 10+ years of experience in property and casualty underwriting, product, or actuarial roles focused on these lines.* Deep knowledge of underwriting principles, policy forms, and regulatory filing processes.* Demonstrated success in navigating regulatory approvals and leading cross-functional projects.* Ability to synthesize multi-disciplinary input into actionable strategies.* Execution mindset with ownership mentality.* Clear, confident communicator with regulators and senior stakeholders.**Additional Information:**This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.**Compensation**The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
