Role Summary The field-based Director of Public Affairs is a member of the US Policy and Government Relations department responsible for driving public affairs priorities in multiple states in the US. This role will also have management responsibilities to manage several members of the Alliance Development team who work in the same states to engage third party stakeholders. In this role, the director will work with their team to engage with third parties and drive digital and earned media campaigns in support of Pfizer’s policy priorities.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute public affairs and communications strategies in region; lead strategic direction in region of public affairs and alliance team to support federal and state policy priorities.

Drive state teams and regional public affairs firms’ execution of public affairs campaigns including tailoring earned media pitches, conducting media training of identified third-parties and targeting specific media channels (broadcast, print news and opinion and online) based on a sophisticated understanding of media market differentiation matched to political strategy.

Lead social media & digital advocacy capability development and execution in the region as a key component of public affairs campaigns.

Create public affairs opportunities in the region by working closely with government relations and the alliance development team to develop policy communications and advocacy strategies.

Leverage earned and social media to impact state and federal government officials, opinion leaders and third-party organizations.

Generate and execute strategic public affairs campaigns in states and the region to advance Pfizer interests with federal and state government, as both policy setter and customer.

Assist government relations team efforts to build strategic alliances with government officials and advocates to shape state and federal political and public policy environment.

Manage and drive strategic priorities and engagements of members of the alliance development team; manage and drive performance of regional public affairs firms.

Qualifications

Required: BA/BS Degree

Preferred: Advanced degree in a related field

Preferred: 8+ years of previous public affairs, media experience with at least 3 years spent in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical field and demonstrated leadership across peer groups

Preferred: Experience working with key thought leaders or advocacy groups

Preferred: Previous management experience and ability to develop and motivate others, lead through change, and deliver on Pfizer BU public affairs priorities

Required: Ability to plan and manage a budget within restrictions

Required: Ability to communicate and execute complex topics

Required: Track record in motivating colleagues and developing strong internal relationships

Education

BA/BS Degree required. Advanced degree in a related field preferred.

Additional Requirements

Remote position that covers states to be determined in the US

Traveling roughly 25% of the time may be a requirement for a Director of Public Affairs
