As the Deputy Director of UA Land Management, you will be part of a small but impactful team managing more than 150,000 acres of University of Alaska land across the state. Our work directly supports the UA Scholars program and supports campus real estate needs.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role as a key support to the Director, helping lead initiatives, building creative partnerships, and traveling across Alaska to represent the University on land matters.

We offer an inclusive and collaborative workplace that values teamwork, creativity, and work‑life balance. The university fosters professional growth, and this position offers a pathway to leadership opportunities within the UA system. This is an exciting role with diverse projects, meaningful community impact, and a culture that encourages innovation and collaboration.

To be successful as Deputy Director of Land Management, you’ll bring a strong background in real estate, land management, and/or organizational leadership. Experience managing small teams is essential, and familiarity with navigating complex regulatory or bureaucratic processes, such as working with state or federal laws, will help you excel.

This is a salaried position with flexible work hours and location options, though our office typically operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Pay is competitive and negotiable based on experience. As part of the University of Alaska system, you and your family will also enjoy excellent benefits, including tuition assistance for staff, spouses, and dependents.

Because we’re a small team of 12, each person has an outsized impact. You’ll need to be flexible and thrive in an environment where projects shift frequently. One day you may be negotiating a land sale or lease, the next handling a trespass issue or working on natural resource management. If you enjoy variety, creativity, and meaningful challenges, this is the team for you.

Success in this role also depends on strong communication skills, comfort with public engagement, and the ability to manage conflict with professionalism and integrity. We’re looking for someone who values collaboration, brings a problem‑solving mindset, and is excited to advance the UALM mission.
