JOB DESCRIPTION Crime Stories w/ Nancy Grace is seeking a temporary Technical Director to provide full‑time coverage for approximately 6-8 weeks. This role will lead live production and switching for its daily television program. This role is responsible for managing control room operations and executing high‑quality live broadcasts in a fast‑paced studio environment.

The Technical Director will switch up to three in‑studio cameras and as many as six simultaneous remote guest feeds, while seamlessly integrating soundbites, b‑roll, graphics, and lower thirds on cue from the Executive Producer. This position takes full ownership of on‑site and remote production workflows, ensuring reliable, polished, and technically sound broadcasts every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare, set up, and test all control room, studio, and transmission equipment prior to production

Operate and live switch daily and evergreen programs using a Tricaster TC‑1

Manage remote guest feeds through vMix switching software

Perform light audio mixing on TC‑1 for host, guests, and audio tracks

Trigger graphics, lower thirds, and supportive visual elements during live production

Serve as the lead technical support for all aspects of live and recorded workflows

Record and manage switched and ISO recordings for editing and archiving

Oversee integration of cameras, full NDI workflows, and virtual inputs including Skype and Zoom

Build automated workflows and macros within the switcher to enhance production efficiency

Support additional production‑related tasks as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Expert knowledge of the NewTek platform, specifically Tricaster TC‑1 and TalkShow systems

3–4 years of experience as a Technical Director using Tricaster TC‑1

3–4 years of experience in a live‑streaming or broadcast environment

Strong expertise in audio mixing and vMix switching software

Knowledge of NDI and Dante workflowsAdvanced understanding of video formats and broadcast standards

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with the ability to edit video for air

Strong working knowledge of broadcast equipment, streaming devices, and video routers

Proficiency with Mac operating systems and PC‑based video‑streaming software

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic production environment

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a small production team

GOOD TO HAVE

Experience building automated switcher macros to streamline production workflows

Experience working in a small, high‑output studio production team

Familiarity with crime or news‑based programming environments

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $60.00‑70.00 per hour.
