Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.***Responsibilities:**Supports the assembly, integration, installation, testing, troubleshooting, modification, and maintenance of complex, high-precision mechanical and electromechanical systems used in advanced research and experimental facilities. Translates engineering designs and released documentation into fully integrated and operational hardware while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and procedural requirements. Work frequently involves precision mechanical systems operating in cleanroom, vacuum, or controlled environments and requires collaboration with engineers, scientists, and technical staff.**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*** Leads or performs assembly, integration, installation, and testing of complex mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies and full system hardware.* Troubleshoots and resolves mechanical integration and performance issues using engineering documentation, procedures, and sound technical judgment.* Modifies or machines manufactured components as required to support system integration, alignment, and fit-up.* Interprets mechanical drawings, specifications, and assembly documentation to ensure hardware meets design intent, performance, and quality requirements.* Supports installation, alignment, and commissioning of precision mechanical systems within laboratory, cleanroom, or vacuum environments.* Develops, updates, and maintains assembly procedures, work instructions, and integration documentation.* Coordinates integration activities across multidisciplinary teams to support project schedules and operational readiness.* Supports bill-of-material verification, component procurement coordination, and hardware inspection.* Ensures proper care, handling, maintenance, and storage of cleanroom-compatible and precision mechanical components and equipment.* May provide technical mentorship, task guidance, and training to technicians or junior specialists.* Other duties as assigned.**MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE*** Associate's degree and 7 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES*** Demonstrated experience in assembly, integration, testing, or maintenance of complex precision mechanical or electromechanical systems.* Demonstrated ability to interpret detailed mechanical drawings, assembly documentation, and technical specifications.* Experience using precision mechanical measurement and inspection equipment.* Familiarity working in controlled environments such as cleanrooms, vacuum systems, or laboratory research facilities preferred.* Toolroom or machine shop experience, including manual machining or mechanical modification of components preferred.* Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.* Basic rigging and mechanical installation experience preferred.* Exposure to CAD software for visualization and drawing interpretation preferred.* Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams.The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving an inclusive and welcoming culture to advance the University’s Mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and Make the World Ever Better.
