CURRENT VACANCIES Applications are being accepted for various positions within the Community Operations Department. The current available vacancies are within the divisions listed below. Community Services (Sports)
PARKS AND RECREATION TYPICAL DUTIES:
Assist and participate in the recreation, community service and/or human service programs of one or more assigned areas such as youth and adult sports, special needs, senior citizens, special events, contractual recreation programs
Assist with planning, coordinating, publicizing, promoting and scheduling a variety of recreation programs or special assignments
Maintains contact with community groups and organizations.
Plan, organize and conduct recreation activities including games, sports, crafts, special events, contests, tournaments and other related activities at a playground or park, and Riley Gymnasium
Supervise the issuance, use, care and maintenance of recreation supplies and equipment
Coordinate and instruct new and original games, sports and cultural activities
May supervise Community Services Aides and Community Services Assistants
May work as a sports official
Maintain records and reports
Attending regular staff meeting
May perform physical setup and takedown of tables, chairs, P.A. systems and other facility equipment
Provides information to the public on policies, procedures and programs
Seeking compliance with safety and department policies
Make program related presentations to community groups and may attend a variety of meetings representing the department
Compile and maintain a wide variety of records, reports and analysis regarding program activities
Assist with Special Events with the city
Answer telephones, take messages, direct and refer information to and from customers and/or staff
Accept registrations & money
Meet deadlines within department (e.g. newsletters, updates, timecards, evaluations, reports, memos, logs, requisitions, warrants, etc.)
Must be able to shift focus rapidly to address emergency department needs without losing track of ongoing or preempted duties and responsibilities
Pick up and deliver supplies
Work effectively and courteously with diverse internal and external customers to include difficult customers, the public and other staff members
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Performs other related work as required, within and outside the department
Experience Two years' work experience in the provision of recreational sports, child services, therapeutic recreation and/or human services. Experience in operating youth and adult sports programs and organized sports leagues.
Education Graduation from high school or equivalent. Two years of college course work from an accredited college or university preferred but not required.
License/Certificates Valid Class “C” California Diver License, at time of hire with good driving record. Basic First Aid and CPR certification required within three months of employment.
Knowledge and Ability
Oversee and participate in recreational community services programs, hire, train and oversee the work of hourly and volunteer staff
Organize and conduct assigned programs and activities, including new programs and services
General knowledge of a variety of sports rules, regulations and concepts
Use a computer and other standard office equipment including cash register and make accurate change
Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports
Maintain excellent public relations with diverse internal and external customers
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Supervise children both indoors and outdoors
Knowledge of information and referral sources including community, county, state and federal programs
General knowledge of age‑appropriate youth and/or senior activities
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Understand and be proficient at operating Microsoft Office, with strong skills in Excel. Understand and operate standard office equipment (computer and cash register). Must be able to shift focus rapidly to address organizational needs without losing track of ongoing or pre‑empted duties and responsibilities. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work evenings and weekends when required. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to deal with difficult customers. Prompt and regular attendance. May drive a light truck or other equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print. Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects. Requires mobility to stand, stoop, reach, and bend. Sit for long periods while typing and using a computer. Performs lifting, pushing and/or pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds for the purpose of lifting and holding children and/or equipment. Requires the ability to move from place to place within the office and to reach for items above and below desk level. Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions.
EMERGENCY SERVICES: All City employees are required to perform assigned Emergency Service duties in the event of an emergency or disaster. Employee must complete required FEMA courses within six months of employment.
