
Under supervision and direction of the Court Administrator, you will provide specialized administrative support and technical dissemination services to ensure proper and efficient Municipal Court and Bond Court operations. Records and documents all steps in the judicial procedure set forth by the City of Beaufort and South Carolina Court Administration standards. The following functions illustrate the variety of work performed; omissions do not exclude similar duties.
Responsibilities
Assist in collecting and accounting for traffic tickets and warrants; perform data entry, receive payments, prepare deposits, prepare correspondence; maintain logs and mailbox copies of documents; assist with accounts receivable activities. Verify docket citations for infractions and non‑traffic misdemeanors issued by the Beaufort Police Department and maintain an orderly filing system.
Organize the court calendar and issue notices to those ordered to appear. Distribute calendars to the City Attorney, Public Defender, Police Department, and other community agencies and jurisdictions as required.
File miscellaneous documents related to the Court's operations, enter data into the computer system, and process bail forfeitures and fine payments. Complete dispositions on citations and required Court documents, time‑payment forms, and community‑service work forms.
Initiate court documents—jail commitment orders and warrants—for signature of the Municipal Court Judge. Proofread own material to assure proper layout, arrangement, grammar, spelling, and inclusion of all pertinent information.
Attend court sessions and serve as court annotator. Greet and serve participants at the counter and on the telephone, responding to inquiries courteously and providing information within scope of knowledge and authority. Refer participants to employees of higher classification as appropriate.
Maintain communications and all necessary record‑keeping. Occasionally perform portions of work of higher‑classified positions, as assigned.
Attend court hearings and record information onto the legal docket. Prepare official court dispositions reported to SCDMV and/or SLED.
Respond to routine correspondence requiring information or responses to inquiries; answer telephones, take messages, provide general information to the public, and make appropriate referrals to other offices/agencies.
Type, proofread, and distribute orders, docket entries, correspondence, and all forms of a specialized and confidential nature. Record courtroom equipment for accurate annotation of proceedings.
Organize and maintain docket files, make appropriate entries into cases and files, file stamp various dockets, and submit files for signatures while ensuring smooth flow and confidentiality.
Create a variety of court orders including arrest warrants, bench warrants, subpoenas, commitment orders, releases, bond conditions, orders of protection, scheduled time payments, motions to reopen, jury trial requests, certified court dispositions, background checks and other documents as directed by the courts.
Act as a liaison between multiple judges and a variety of city/county departments and agencies.
Receive bond forfeitures/payments on fines; make change as necessary, generate receipts, recall active bench warrants issued for nonpayment of fines, and notify SCDMV of fines paid via faxing compliance forms.
Assist all participants in resolving difficult issues; research and resolve issues accurately and quickly.
Maintain Judge’s calendar and prepare court schedule, hearings, and meetings. Maintain jury list and inform management of jurors who need to be excused, removed, or rescheduled.
Assist as directed by the Deputy Clerk of Court or Court Administrator.
Assist in greeting and assisting participants, including answering the telephone or cashier window.
Maintain uniform traffic tickets and warrants—collection, accountability, and computer entry; assign docket numbers and maintain proper files.
Assist in receipt of payments: perform data entry, credit payment to proper account, balance the cash drawer, and prepare daily deposits. Balance drawer three times daily and deposit all monies.
Assist in collecting all accounts receivable, including scheduling time payments with defendants and reviewing accounts regularly.
Receive and process incoming mail and related correspondence.
Maintain filing system for all cases filed, arrest warrants, various correspondence, bench warrants, jury trials, NRVC forms, transmittals, time payments, dockets, reports, traffic tickets, etc.
Assist the Judge and police officers with various clerical, administrative, and judicial tasks.
Receive, prepare, process, file, and/or submit trial requests, appeals, notices, tickets, receipts, warrants, transmittals, trial letters, NRVC expungements, and general office correspondence.
Utilize various machinery and equipment such as computer, typewriter, printer, adding machine, tape recorder, telephone, copier, fax.

Public; City of Beaufort employees; Beaufort County employees; Town of Port Royal employees; Town of Bluffton employees; victims, defendants, family members of victims and defendants; 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office employees; South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle employees; incarcerated defendants; bondsmen; probation and parole employees; members of the Armed Services; any other person who engages with the Court.
