Location: Prairie Central Junior High School
Primary Purpose Under the direct supervision of a School Principal, assist administrators, teachers, parents and students in resolving student attendance, behavioral and disciplinary problems consistently, and manage the Junior High Athletic programs.
Essential Functions
Assist teachers, parents and students in resolving non-academic student issues such as behavioral problems.
Maintain records of any student disciplinary actions taken in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and District policies.
Confers with parents, teachers, support services personnel and students on matters of discipline and problem solving.
Provide mentoring services to students and consultation services to parents.
Report to administrators, teachers, school attendance staff, parents, and students on issues affecting student performance.
Recommend appropriate programs for students to assist them with behavioral problems.
Instruct and advise students regarding their responsibility to adhere to school rules and policies, fostering a safe school environment and respect for others and property.
Assist in arranging for appropriate tutorial instruction related to assigned academic work.
Assist administrators, teachers, and school attendance staff in addressing student attendance problems.
Assist in the administration of the In‑School Suspension Program and co‑curricular activities.
Arrange meetings as directed with students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding disciplinary problems.
Counsel individual students as needed and make appropriate referrals for testing, guidance or other services.
Coordinate with community and government agencies regarding drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, and other conduct.
Assist in developing policies and practices to assure building security and safety.
Assist in the preparation of student expulsion hearings.
Organize and manage all athletic programs at the Junior High.
Work in conjunction with the High School Athletic Director.
Evaluate staff and coaches.
Equipment Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier, fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements Travel to school district buildings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Work in standard office and school building environments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline, bullying, sexual harassment, etc.
Knowledge of student behavior management techniques.
Knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and ability to engage in dispute resolution.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications Profile Certification/License:
Illinois State Administrative License: required for position.
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education: Bachelor's and Masters Degrees from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Successful teaching or administrative experience working with children.
