Overview

We are seeking a creative strategic storyteller to help shape how Grand Blanc Township communicates with and listens to its community. The Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening connections between the Township and its residents by delivering clear, timely, and engaging information about services, initiatives, and local priorities. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and skilled writer who can translate complex municipal information into accessible, compelling messages. This role manages content across multiple platforms, including social media, e-newsletters, and digital campaigns, while ensuring voice and tone reflect the Township’s commitment to transparency, trust, and public service. This role includes occasional public facing and on camera communication to help share timely and transparent information with the community. This position requires a proactive, data-informed approach to storytelling to increase awareness, encourage participation, and support meaningful civic engagement. Supervision Received

Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Recreation & Community Engagement Supervision Exercised

May coordinate and provide direction to part-time staff, seasonal employees, and volunteers as assigned. Duties

Coordinate marketing, advertising, and promotional efforts for Township programs, services, and events. Create, manage, and distribute written, digital, and visual communications, including social media content, website updates, newsletters, flyers, and press materials. Develop and execute compelling, community focused storytelling that informs, inspires, and builds trust with residents, businesses, and community partners. Translate complex Township initiatives, policies, and programs into clear, engaging narratives tailored for diverse audiences. Serve as an on-camera presence for Township communications, including social media videos, recorded updates, public information messaging, and occasional media or news appearances. Facilitate meaningful two-way communication by monitoring digital channels, responding to inquiries, and encouraging public participation through relevant content. Build strong cross-functional relationships to gather information, identifying stories, and ensure consistent, accurate messaging. Serve as a collaborative partner to departments by advising on digital storytelling best practices and effective audience engagement strategies. Edit, organize, and manage digital assets while staying current with industry trends and best practices in multimedia storytelling. Assist with or coordinate the planning, promotion, and execution of special events. Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners, sponsors, and local organizations. Coordinate with local newspapers, schools, and community groups to distribute promotional content and cross-promote activities. Manage sponsor relationships, including fulfillment of benefits such as logos, signage, acknowledgements, and promotional mentions. Develop reports and recommendations based on data, engagement trends, and campaign outcomes to inform future content decisions. Proactively identify opportunities, risks, and emerging issues that may impact the Township’s reputation of public perception. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. We will also consider candidates with significant or relevant experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. Two or more years’ experience in managing social media platforms, digital content, or public communications. Valid Michigan Driver’s license Knowledge

Principles and practices of community engagement, public relations, and strategic communications. Understands the fundamental concepts of promoting local government and community. Knowledge of website content management and social media platforms. Proficient at writing, organizing content and data, and reporting outcomes. Knowledge of marketing, advertising, sponsorships and partnership development. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations. Skill

Skills in storyboarding, editing, and producing multimedia content (photo, video, audio, graphics). Creating, curating, and managing engaging content across platforms. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to develop engaging content for diverse audiences. Event planning and on-site coordination skills. Organizational and time-management skills. Abilities

Ability to stay adaptable, innovative, and proactive in identifying risks, opportunities, and new trends. Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities. Ability to work effectively under deadlines and occasional stress. Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally both online and in person. Ability to confidently communicate on camera and in public facing settings, including delivering updates, interviews, or informational content. Experience with digital cameras and basic video editing abilities Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to comments, questions, and sensitive issues on social platforms. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, partners, and the public. Physical Requirements
