
What You Will Do
GFT is seeking a Highway Designer to join our Transportation group in Miami, Florida. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Miami office.

What you'll be challenged to do As a Highway Designer, you'll support the design and development of roadway and highway projects in Florida. You will work alongside senior engineers to deliver projects for FDOT and other local and regional agencies. In this role, you'll contribute to transportation infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to prepare quality design plans, meet project deadlines, and support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
Support the design of roadway projects from concept through final design, including limited construction phase support
Assist with the preparation of engineering plans including horizontal and vertical geometry, typical sections, and cross sections
Prepare plan and profile sheets, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and construction details under the direction of senior staff
Assist in developing quantities, cost estimates, and portions of design reports
Coordinate with internal team members and support coordination efforts with utility companies and permitting agencies
Review shop drawings and submittals for general conformance with contract documents
Participate in internal quality control reviews of design documents
Attend agency and public meetings in a support role alongside senior staff
Collaborate with project teams to contribute to timely and accurate deliverables
Provide in-house support to local clients as needed (FDOT, MDC-DTPW)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
An Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
2-4 years of experience with a strong foundation in transportation engineering and highway design
Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office
FDOT design experience
Strong highway design skills with the ability to train and mentor junior staff
Experience preparing submittals
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
Compensation The salary range for this role is $84,000 - $92,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
