Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Entry Writer to support our Customs Brokerage team in San Pedro, CA. This role is responsible for preparing, processing, and filing accurate import entries in compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with standard consumption entries, Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) filings (CBP Form 214), and bonded warehouse operations. Strong knowledge of HTS classification, compliance regulations, and ACE/ABI systems is required.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and transmit import entries (CBP Form 7501) via ACE/ABI.
Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
Calculate duties, taxes, fees, and applicable ADD/CVD.
File Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) admissions using CBP Form 214, including status designations and zone transfers.
Process bonded warehouse entries, withdrawals, and bonded movements.
Review import documentation (commercial invoices, bills of lading, packing lists, certificates of origin) for accuracy and compliance.
Respond to CBP holds, exams, requests for information, and post-entry amendments.
Coordinate with clients, freight forwarders, carriers, and government agencies to ensure timely clearance.
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with regulatory deadlines.
Provide client support regarding entry status, duty estimates, and compliance matters.
Stay current on CBP regulations, FTZ rules (19 CFR Part 146), bonded warehouse requirements, and trade compliance updates.
Qualifications Required:
2+ years of experience as an Entry Writer or in customs brokerage operations
Proven experience filing CBP Form 214 for FTZ admissions
Hads on experience with bonded warehouse entries and compliance procedures
Strong knowledge of HTS classification, customs valuation, rules of origin, and PGA requirements
Proficiency in ACE/ABI systems and brokerage software
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
Experience with drawback, TIB, or specialized entry types
Exposure to brokerage system automation or IT integrations
Customs Broker License (or working toward licensing)
